27/12/2000 11:09 | Report in Sunday Business said Tomkins are going to concentrate on getting the share price up by buy backs etc. before they try and sell anything. | bpoole

27/12/2000 10:09 | Looks like they are going to sell Smith & Wesson then go for a take over. | bpoole
26/12/2000 21:52 | Lets hope they dont go for a break up. Theres 3 horrible costs involved in a break up; time, discount and eh... hard costs. Break ups tie your money up for ages; 1 to 3 years, the professional fees and restructuring costs etc are enormous, and the sales of businesses are at a discount as the selling is normally considered as 'distress' selling. With luck the 'new' management will rationalise and use cash to expand the core nusiness. Fingers crossed. If you want to see a case in point of why a break up is bad, go look at Rank (RNK) since '97. | clem
26/12/2000 20:18 | articles in sunday bussines suggest 2.3 bln break up, bodes well for the near term imo | biomax

05/12/2000 15:30 | A bid or a breakup is the only hope for this one. I just hope someone hurries up and puts it out of it's misery. Sure it's still profitable, but should have far more so,but for years of arrogant mismanagement. Don't get me wrong, I'm a holder of this stock, and once liked the apparent undervalued nature of it as a buyer, but having been involved fairly long term I am now like many holders at the end of my patience with this one. I wouldn't bank on a dividend increase, with the share price as low as this they could easily justify cutting the divi'which would further depress the share price. I'm not saying they will, but let's face it if an MBO is on the cards then the lower the share price the better from managements point of view, before they masquerade as everyones hero by offering us some derisory figure for our shares. Biker I've got to agree with you about the "MIDAS" column it's not been worth reading since Neil Thapar left. best of luck with it. Chadd. | chadd
05/12/2000 13:26 | Buyers moving back in. | bpoole
05/12/2000 06:40 | biker The five day moving average crossed the twenty day moving average a few days ago. I am a holder at 152.75. I uderstand that the CEO has left and there are bid rumours flying about. Good luck | fahd
04/12/2000 15:59 | PW... Yes, after reading the thread I thought you might be. Everything you, and others, say on the fundamentals is correct. My problem is that I have a raft of companies in my portfolio with equally impressive fundamentals which nevertheless keep dropping like a stone. In trying to see where I am going wrong I thought I would look for other indicators as to where the share price might go to back up my choices, and decided to try this charting malarkey. The good news is that the chart kept me out of Tomkins all the way down from £2.00 where I was tempted to buy. I have now got to pick the turn early enough so that I do not miss out on too much profit on the way up and I think that this is a good one to practice on as there is certainly plenty of potential. The dividend is lovely but my experience has been that as soon as I buy on that basis there is a cut, so I tend to be a bit wary. Regards - b | biker
04/12/2000 14:05 | Bpoole, Biker, Already a holder but ditto! | pw
04/12/2000 14:01 | bpoole... I saw that. I have been tracking tips from Midas for the last couple of weeks and am not too impressed, although to be fair it has been a rotten time for the tipsters in general. However, I think that he may have this one right. I have been waiting for the share price to go above the twenty day moving average, which looks like may very well happen today. If it closes above that on two consecutive days that will push me into them. Best of luck. | biker
04/12/2000 13:25 | They were tipped in the Mail on Sunday. Midas thinks the interims will be good and the divi will be increased. I bought in at 150.75 this morning. | bpoole
04/12/2000 08:52 | I'm not so sure. I reckon we may be near the bottom. I'm just looking for one or two positive indicators and I will be in. | biker
03/12/2000 21:39 | Closed my short a few days ago, out of sheer boredom. Watch it tank now :-) | kayak |
