This seems a sensible move to me. Tiger has a massive cash surplus and good mining investments at the right price are hard to come by at the moment. It's all NAV enhancing as well.

Tiger Resource Finance plc ("Tiger" or the "Company")

Tiger Resource Finance plc ("Tiger") announces that it intends to embark upon a
share buy-back programme as authorised by the Company's shareholders at its last
AGM held on the 26 March 2004. The buy-back will not be limited to definitive
blocks of shares nor to a fixed period of time. The price paid per share may not
exceed 20% higher than the average of the middle market quotations per share as
derived from the Alternative Investment Market of the London Stock Exchange for
the fifteen days immediately preceding the day on which the shares are
purchased.

Oversupply of shares, absolutely, you will note that no one else is buying! The share purchases will help to reduce that.

Big profits not really, there are also concerns that the company is being run for teh benefit of Rowan. The NAV is about 30% up on the subscription price so not too bad

If they've got so much spare cash does that mean they're making a big profit?

How come so much stock is being repurchased and there's no effect on market supply or price? Is there a massive overflow?

Thanks for that.
Another 5.1 million bought up today!

GP - Simple and straightforward.

A sensible target is to keep enough shares in treasury to cover options issued and expected to be issued and then cancel the rest.

Finally on a fully diluted basis it will effect the NAV per share as instead of say 235 million issued plus 15 million options or 250 million you will have say 220 million issued plus 15 million in treasury (to be used for options) or a total of 235 million.

Buying up teh surplus shares is a good thing. Firstly it hardens the market, secodly at rough current valuations the company is paying out 2p of my money to buy in shares with a NAV of 2.6p. So for every share purchased the NAV per share is increasing.

After todays announcement it makes 13,300,000 shares purchased for around £266,000 over the past few weeks. Any bright ideas about what is going on?
How easy is it to cancel Treasury Stock once the company has purchased it?

Good ? simcox1. The RNS does state that the shares purchased are "to be held as Treasury Stock." The only short term benefit I can see is that it will mop up market supply which will strengthen the price...

What's the benefit of buying back these shares? Have they really got so much spare cash and what's the benefit to us? And if its a share buyback doesn't that mean the shares are cancelled after a period of time.
simcox1

But don't forget he has not bought the share back for cancellation so it has no effect on NAV as number of issued shares is still the same.

I suppose it depends on whether they buy back enough. On announcements so far it is about 4.475% of the issued shares ( but I expect another RNS today after yesterdays trading ). Because they are buying back at substantially less than the NAV ( about 25% ) it is increasing the NAV of the remaining shares. With so much cash available they could potentially buy back nearly half the issued shares which would increase the NAV of those remaining by about 25%. It also means that if Bruce Rowans prediction of a good second half is proven right the remaining shares will get all the benefit of the portfolio share price growth so we could see a pretty good increase in NAV for the full year. I think that I'll hold mine a for another 6 months or so to see what pans out.
