                      Appointment of Non-Executive Director



Thorntons PLC is pleased to announce the appointment of MartinDavey as a
Non-Executive Director of the Company with immediate effect.

Martin, aged 50, is currently Chief Executive of Cranswick plc, a position he
has held since 1988, having joined as Finance Director in 1985. He was named
'Entrepreneur of the Year' in 2003 by the Financial Times in recognition of his
role in leading Cranswick, whose activities are focused in the food,
agribusiness and pet sectors, through a period of rapid expansion and
diversification.

The Board looks forward to thecontribution Martin will bring to the Company in
helping to deliver shareholder value during an important period of our strategic
development.
