17/1/2002 13:51 | the assets are way overvalued and thistle are the ONLY hotel chain that I know of that does not have annual valuations. it is basically a tax free break for all the singapore non execs they have! note the musical chairs in the last 4 years. Brierley the largest shareholder is not doing well at all and revenue is down a whopping 33% in the 14 weeks since 11.09 with no improvement mentioned | jakex
17/1/2002 13:44 | A lot of reasonable press this morning with the general view that the worse is over and Thistle will be one of the first to gain from any increase in tourism plus the old rumours of a bid. ainsoph | ainsoph
17/1/2002 13:41 | it seems thistle has ridden the worst, i expected a greater fall when the trading statement was released. could be a good buy now up to 145p by may. | burrmj
16/1/2002 11:09 | LONDON (AFX) - Shares in Thistle Hotels PLC fell 6.8 pct on the back of a poor full year trading update which included a cautious outlook. Thistle declined 6.8 pct or 7.5 pence to 109 pence at 10.30 am, compared with a 52-week high of 172p. The 56-strong hotel chain reported a 26 pct drop in turnover in its 22-strong London hotel chain in the 15 weeks following the Sept 11 airplane hijackings in the US. The group said total turnover for the full year to Dec 30 also fell by almost 6 pct. Chief executive Ian Burke said trading conditions had continued to be difficult, particularly in London. "It remains difficult to forecast prospects for the hotel industry for 2002 and we remain cautious on market conditions for the next six months," he said. Revenue per available room (revpar) fell in the full year by 5.4 pct to 50.56 stg. In a research note Merrill Lynch cut its earnings per share and profit forecasts on Thistle for 2001 and 2002. The broker took its EPS forecast to 7.4 pence for 2001 and 6.2 pence for 2002 down from 9.6 pence and 9.5 pence respectively. Merrill expects a pretax profit of 43 million stg for 2002 and 56.3 mln for 2003. But Merrill still believes the stock trades at fair value on a price earnings ratio of 14.4 times estimated 2003 earnings, reflecting its potential for a strong bounce as and when the London market turns the corner. WestLB, in a research note, repeated its underperform rating on the stock, saying it believes it will be at least the third quarter before trading turns up. "Thistle is a perennial take-over target, but investors may have to be patient in this environment, especially in light of the recent share price recovery," said WestLB. | ainsoph
19/12/2001 17:39 | the share is now heading south, but by how much. the results are not due for a couple of months, they could continue to drop steadily till then, i still think 80p by next year. | burrmj

30/11/2001 15:09 | you can get a nice discount without being a shareholder at the moment, in fact as a shareholder you get discount on the top price so you are worse off. | burrmj
28/11/2001 21:33 | I hold lots and not even thinking of selling them ........ 8 million changed hands today which is 9 times the daily average. Shares held their own despite the general market falls. They are up 30% over the last month and out-performing the sector by nearly 8%. Anyway I get a nice discount as a shareholder. K | kdc
28/11/2001 20:46 | i just believe that they will fall 20% when the results are leeked or out, but they are really sound and i expect an over-reaction, then i hope to buy at 90p. today plenty of huge sells, its about to happen i think but then the share stood up well, if i had some i would get out now!!! | burrmj
27/11/2001 21:15 | I think something is going on - ticked up another 2 or 3 pence today with 1.25 million traded. Out of interest - why did you sell while they were moving up? K | kdc

26/11/2001 16:43 | Market makers buying stock and marking bid up on a lacklukster day in general. Tho is moving slowly towards the next important level of £1.20. What looks like a shortage in stock could move the bid price up quickly if any significant buys went through. imho.dyor Oldtown | oldtown
26/11/2001 16:13 | Still ticking up despite the relatively poor sector news. K | kdc |
