---- SoftBank and Teleoperation of Autonomous Vehicles in Japan -----

BOLDLY Inc. is a subsidiary of SoftBank Corp.
BOLDLY Inc. develops operation systems and provides services for autonomous driving mobility
BOLDLY Inc has chosen Auve Tech and its AV MiCa for operations in many towns and cities in Japan

IMO for the SAFE operation which involves remote monitoring and control of an autonomous level 4 vehicle by a remote human controller working in a Remote Monitoring and Control Centre (RMCC) --- As these will initially be operational in routes of 1km to 3km in length , there will imo be a minimum of 3 radio systems involved.

First one of these will be a Private Network

Another will be a Public Network

And thirdly one will be a Satellite Network

The first one will consist of several base stations with their own antennas sited so as to give optimal signal strength along and around the shuttle route --- this will form the 'Normal ' or Primary Communications link from and to the RMCC from the shuttle

The other two will form automatic switched 'Standby' communications links , again being tested by a shuttle to ensure optimal signal strength for shuttle communications/controls to the RMCC

In Japan SoftBank is involved in the provision of both Private and Public 5G Networks

April 18th 2023
SoftBank Corp. Launches Private 5G Service that’s Custom-built for Enterprises

September 27th 2023

5G and Autonomous Driving Technologies to Power Japan’s First Bus Platooning Trial on Public Roads

As one might expect SoftBank also has its own Satellites

The point of this post being that SoftBank already has now developed and launched all of the 3 types of communications needed imo for the safest operation of autonomous shuttles

IMO the Guident SaaS solution for the safe operation , monitoring and control by a RMCC will allow for all 3 types of Networks to be utilized.

Sometimes there are major power outages which can affect ground based communication systems as well as base stations failing

This is when Satellite communications can save the day

----- The early adoption of level 4 vehicles in Japan -----

A couple of points here:

1) The government of Japan is backing this early adoption ( see previous post )
The government plans to expand these autonomous driving lanes to fifty different locations by 2025 with the aim to help solve the shortage of bus drivers. An aging and depopulating Japan needs autonomous driving technology and advanced mobility services.

2) Japan to assign bandwidth for Level 4 self-driving vehicles

The ministry is discussing allocating part of the 5.9 gigahertz band, now used for broadcasting. It intends to spend 20.5 billion yen ($140 million) to modify wireless transmission equipment so that the operations of broadcasters are not impacted.

Plans call for this newly allocated bandwidth to be used in a test area in Shizuoka prefecture as soon as fiscal 2024.

------------ The urgent need for level 4 shuttles in Japan -------------

Japan is facing a so-called “2024 problem” when overtime hours for drivers will be capped, hence there is a foreseen:

DRIVER SHORTAGE

Autonomous level 4 shuttles/driverless buses are hoped to alleviate the severe driver shortage in public transportation caused by overtime hours for drivers being capped.

The Nihon Bus Association estimates a shortage of 36,000 bus drivers nationwide in 2030.

With Level 4 shuttles/buses drivers are not needed :---

AS LONG AS THERE IS AN OPERATOR REMOTELY MONITORING THE VEHICLES

Boldly has a remote monitoring centre that oversees driverless buses across the country.

One person would operate multiple buses from there in a rotation, according to the company.

----- Auve Tech making recent progress with MiCa shuttle in Japan -----

It has recently been made known that Auve Tech's autonomous vehicle, MiCa, is now an integral part of the Haneda Innovation City (HI City) in Tokyo.

As HI City continues to redefine urban living with its innovative complex adjacent to Haneda Airport, Auve Tech's MiCa has joined the cityscape as a symbol of smart mobility and technological advancement.

Auve Tech's MiCa shuttle operates on a dedicated route of approximately 1.2 km around HICity, making a significant impact on the daily commute of those working at HI City and its visitors.

There are currently 12 departures a day, and the Auve Tech MiCa shuttle connects various points within the city, including the newly introduced bus stop "ZONE B," strategically located near Tenkubashi Station, the gateway to HICity.

There have been other locations in Japan where the Auve Tech MiCa shuttle has now recently been placed by their Japanese partner Boldly Inc to commence running free services for residents

IMO these placements are starting to gather pace, which imo would suggest that the MiCa shuttles have been performing well.

Reading the RNS today would suggest imo that Guident look set to make decent coin from their contract with Auve tech since:

" By working together, the groundbreaking MiCa shuttle will now incorporate Guident's teleoperation solution, further enhancing its safety and Auve Tech's leading, self-driving technology. For each vehicle outfitted with Guident's technology there will be a hardware fee and a recurring license fee."

Buywell , Well done.
You were almost spot on with your suggestion re Auve Tech tie up.
I'd say you were just one step ahead of what'd be a transformational RNS.

So we know Guident's tech is about to appear in Auve Tech shuttles. We don't know how many and if there's a clear path to those revenuses to come from Hardware + Licencing fees
But you are pointing us to the Japanese project.

Am eagerly awaiting to hear more.

Prominent on the Leaderboard
TEK companies prominent on the Leaderboard this morning:

3 SALT Up17.65% at £1

6 BELL Up 11.62% at 24p

9 TEK Up 8.93% at 15.25p

Guidant isn’t listed so we can’t put a price on it but today’s news is very significant and will undoubtedly have put a decent percentage gain on the value of Guidant.

The future looks very bright for TEK and its rerate has along way to go to properly value its portfolio and reduce the massive discount to NAV.

----------- Guident update expected soon ---------------

In 2024, SoftBank plans to launch fleets of self-driving buses in fifty locations across Japan to cater to rapidly aging communities.

The vehicles can carry up to eight people and are controlled remotely.

They are manufactured by an Estonia-based company called Auve Tech which has partnered with the SoftBank subsidiary, Boldly.

Auve Tech's partnership with Boldly Inc is set to transform the transportation scene in the Japanese town of Sakai

Starting In February 2024 several Auve Tech autonomous MiCa shuttles will begin to operate regular services on the streets of Sakai , realizing ambitious plans for this soon to be -- smarter and more connected Japanese community

An RNS perhaps imo

If you want to be exposed to SALT it better to buy TEK as you are buying SALT at a good discount because TEK’s 77% of SALT is valued at more than TEK’s total Market Cap by some margin. All the other investments are in for free.
