Mkt cap £20m, pbt£4-5m, must be a steal at double the current share price if the economy is at the bottom of the cycle, in it to win it before a predator strikes.

Remember by the the time recovery becomes apparent for all to see the share price will have shot up to reflect better times ahead. In the meantime enjoy the 6% div.

gl all.

T Clarke toughs it out
By Jonas Crosland, 20 March 2012

Profits and margins took another hit last year at building services group T Clarke, although there are signs that the current cycle may be bottoming out. Forward orders remained steady at £190m and, even though the dividend has been slashed, it is now well covered by earnings. Meanwhile the shares, which now trade on just four times earnings, are unlikely to fall much further.

IC VIEW:

Nearly all of the cash has been eaten away – although there's an untouched £8m overdraft facility to cover short-term needs – and trading remains tough. Still, after slumping over 45 per cent since August, the shares, which now trade on just four times earnings, fully reflect those challenges. Hold.

Last IC view: Sell, 55.38p, 2 Sep 2011

Are we at thebottom of the cycle ? Japan stock market still some 75% below peak. Aging population like UK - Bak rate super low for decades - Companies becoming uncompetive compared to rest of Asia - OK I know CT are a UK focused company but the economy has to grow to benefit them - Jury still out (imo)

Sorry to be a wet sponge for holders BUT !!

Severfield Rowen Underlying basic earnings per share is 8.05p putting it on an historic p/e c.21 and has net debt of £31m, although a much larger mkt cap. If CTO could achieve p/e of 10 it would be c.75p based on underlying earnings of 7.34p.

IF the ecomomy is indeed troughing CTO is incredibly cheap, I suspect many companies are carrying pension deficits, CTO claim to be addressing the shortfall.

IMHO the merest sniff of recovery and 100p is not a distant reality, potential bidders will want to strike before economic recovery gains traction whenever that may be.

Those with spare cash should buy. This is a steal after such a reasonable results. We are at the bottom of the cycle and CTO has survived. Upwards and forwards from now on. IMO. I'll buy more if they stay under 50p just before going ex div.

Agreed re pension liabilites - A real company killer in these markets - Increased contribution levels coming PLUS retirees are living much longer and the very low yield on gilts increases the actuarial deficit.

Before taking any investment decision here I will have to do a lot more digging on the worst case pension scenario - gut feel at the moment suggests that the buy targets suggested by previous posters may well be too high given the current state of the UK contracting industry and a read across from Severfield today (UK coments only)

I agree with most of the comments (hvs an exception) - I have a target price of 38-40 to buy if the general economic climate stays the same - I think its 50/50 whether they just struggle on for the next few years or get taken out by a bid. When the market picks up in 2013/14 they will be worthwhile.

An MBO.. ? no real directors holdings at present so not a good starting point with the pension problem - a bid from someone with cash backing seems more likely.
