Despite there being a distinct lack of any such evidence, there are still PI's who believe that mm's use buy and sell codes as market signals.

It is alleged that a mm might put a small amount of stock through Level 2 in order that its appearance on the order book will send a message to his other mm friends. eg: when they see a trade of a single share they think it means an important RNS is coming.

The misconception is believed to have originated many years ago in the USA when a particular mm confessed that he and his colleagues had actually tried to work together in this way if one of them found themselves in an uncomfortable position.

While it certainly is possible to put fake trades through an exchange, there are better ways to collude if they really want to.

As a caution though, some speculators have been known to try to take advantage of this myth by buying a single share in the hope that it may trick others into trading, but that tactic cannot be blamed on the market makers.

We may well see an important RNS at some time during the next few weeks, I hope we do, but I don't believe it will have anything to do with secret codes.

Have a good weekend all.
