AstraZeneca limited participation in the trial to people who had recently suffered severe asthma exacerbations that were suspected to have been caused by a cold or flu.However, an interim analysis found a "very low number of reported severe exacerbations," according to AstraZeneca. As the primary endpoint looks at the proportion of subjects to suffer severe asthma exacerbations during their 14 days of treatment, AstraZeneca concluded the low rate of such events "could make primary endpoint conclusions difficult." I can't see how this would point to the drug not boosting antiviral responses in people to fight off / lower the effects of covid-19. As I've pointed out before they have shown that is has worked against the strain SARS-cov-2 which causes Covid-19. IMO no single drug needs to be the one and only key. I don't doubt there may be challenges getting to market which is a long way off but if you can reduce time in hospital thereby reducing any future strain on the NHS, potentially have a lower mortality rate because you are boosting immunity especially in those at most risk and in the case of home trials the idea is to stop the a percentage of the most vulnerable ever getting to the bad 'second week', well then surely you're onto something. I can't see why you would waste valuable cash and a lot of manpower on a home trial of the type they are conducting if they were not very very confident efficacy will be shown. They have also been very specific in the subset of patients chosen. The home trial will be the most profitable angle imo. Imagine this treatment rolled out to the vulnerable at their own homes and care homes. GAME CHANGER!
