The BBC reports that in response to the news of Pfizer’s vaccine:

‘The owner of British Airways, International Airlines Group (IAG) rose 40%, airline engine maker Rolls Royce up 33% while cinema owner Cineworld saw its shares rise 50%.’

So, no surprise there....

Coming to Pfizer, the more I look into it the more absurdly hyper over reaction it has been. One crucial bit that is being obfuscated.... The two groups were given placebo or the vaccine and then allowed to randomly catch from the community. They were not given a live virus after the dosage as far as I can see. What is the bloody point of this exercise in the first place. You are are relying on chance, whether they come into contact with the virus from the community or not.

The question is 90% effective in what? You haven't given people the virus after letting them develop antibodies after the dosage. This 90% conclusion is entirely misleading. I encourage people to understand what has been done.

Normally by P3, safety is relatively assured and you give the therapeutic/vaccine to the diseased patients and then you measure how statistically effective it was compared to those that received a placebo. Here they have done trials to make it "relatively safe" (though not fully explored as normal) and given it to 21.5K patients and another 21.5k given placebo and then sent them back to the community to see what happens. But crucially, the vaccine or placebo group was not exposed to the virus post dosage and antibody production. What Pfizer has done is just gathered stats and proved what we already know that most people will raise antibodies and fight this virus. One explanation for 85 people in placebo group to have covid symptoms compared to 8 from vaccine group, is that the placebo group may have had more exposure to the virus by chance. Normally this parameter is not left to chance and is controlled in any P3 trial.

I refer everyone to the challenger trial... that is where they want to see how vaccine fairs after the volunteers are given the live virus. We should get a better picture then.

Fully expect sense to prevail and dialing down the optimism from whats been released.
