NHS Sustainability Webinar
UK subsidiary and distributor Elemental Healthcare Ltd to host NHS Webinar
Surgical Innovations Group plc (AIM: SUN), the designer, manufacturer and distributor of innovative technology for minimally invasive surgery, announces that its UK subsidiary and distributor Elemental Healthcare Ltd ('Elemental') is hosting an NHS Webinar on 'Sustainability and the Reduction of Plastic Waste in the Operating Theatre' taking place today, Thursday 4 June.
The NHS Webinar is targeted at key NHS Professionals working in Theatres, Procurement or managing sustainability programmes.
Elemental has positioned its laparoscopic portal product portfolio, including SI YelloPort Plus(R) and Elite(TM) trocars, to assist hospitals in their efforts to reduce plastic waste within the NHS-wide drive to deliver this important objective. The NHS commitment to the sustainability agenda comes from the highest level of the organisation. Simon Stevens, CEO of the NHS said:
"It's right that the NHS and our suppliers should join the national campaign to turn the tide on plastic waste. Doing so will be good for our environment, for patients and for taxpayers who fund our NHS ."*
Disposal of plastic waste by hospitals is a huge cost, both as a direct cost and also the considerable cost to the environment as all clinical waste is incinerated. Kits sold by Elemental to the NHS can reduce plastic waste in a typical laparoscopic operation by more than 80%.**
Adam Power, Managing Director of Elemental Healthcare Ltd said:
"The NHS has rightly been focussed on managing Covid-19 over the last three months, but we are seeing a considerable number of trusts re-engage on sustainability and plastic waste management as part of a long term strategy to reduce the NHS's carbon footprint, a key part of their future plan. Elemental Healthcare has a solution for operating theatre waste in the laparoscopic arena . What is more, over the past few months we have witnessed severe stress on the global supply chain and being a UK manufacturer is being recognised as providing a local solution for our partners in the NHS."
