I can see why STM might need to wait at least overnight before making an announcement.
Although existing QROPs will remain and may even be more sticky, giving continued recurring revenues, there will be some impact on new business.
There is quite a lot to read through and detailed rules to take on board.
Is it a minority of STM's potential new clients that are affected?
Would be nice to confirm.

IR35 thanks for the update, yes STM need to clarify this as best they can....maybe a few scared PIs have put the selling pressure on STM today, let's see how things unfold, but seems an over reaction IMO...let's see.

This is what it says in the budget document:

"3.46 Qualifying recognised overseas pension schemes (QROPS): introduction of
transfer charge – The government will introduce a 25% charge on transfers to QROPS. This charge is targeted at those seeking to reduce the tax payable by moving their pension wealth to another jurisdiction. Exceptions will apply to the charge allowing transfers to be made tax-free where people have a genuine need to transfer their pension, including when the individual and
the pension are both located within the European Economic Area. (23)"

It looks like it is to clampdown on people remaining resident in the UK but transferring their pensions offshore. STM's website and all I have seen indicate that their QROPS are aimed at people that move out of the UK so I can't see any reason why they wouldn't be classed as "needing to transfer their pensions".

Hardly clear though.

Overseas pension transfers

From midnight tonight a new 25pc tax charge will be applied to transfers of pensions to overseas schemes when the saver is not living in that country.

There are between 10,000 and 20,000 transfers to foreign schemes a year, the Government estimated. However, the schemes have been mired in claims that they help facilitate pension scams.

The charge will not apply if the individual and scheme are within the European Economic Area or if the overseas scheme is provided by the individual's employer. Only a "minority" of transfers will be affected, the Government said.

The Budget has introduced a 25% tax on QROPS - but supposedly only a minority of transfers will be affected. I took caution as the better part of valour (or whatever the saying is) and sold quite a few at a good profit. Still got some though. STM really need to get a statement out quickly about this:

EDIT - got rid of the last few above 42p.

well ST is nothing but consistent IMO Riv, and so far he is continuing to make me money, so I am in the "fan" box! If there is a material update from a company he follows, then IMO he usually posts an update....if positive then his followers (and others) often follow his lead....DYOR and all that...

Am also in TAP, MIDW and DTG ahead of results if you were vaguely interested! DYOR etc

cheers and have a good one

Looks like good timing QS99. I'd forgotten about ST's keenness - hope you're right, in which case next week could see 60p again.

Results are in 2 weeks on 14th March. We already know from the trading update that they'll be good, as will the outlook.

Forecasts are still for 3.8p historic EPS, with 5.9p EPS for this year. Plus 1.3p and 2p dividends respectively.

All nine trades today are Buys.

A little bit of press or tip attention would likely see STM quickly back to 65p-70p imo.
