Sangaw, Kurdistan.

"The Company is integrating the seismic, drilling, logging, and testing information to update the geological interpretation and determine the future potential of the block, prior to making recommendations to the joint venture group regarding future activities."

"The first sub-period of the exploration phase of the Production Sharing Contract ("PSC") for the Sangaw North Block ends in November 2011. The second, and final, sub-period of the exploration phase of the PSC has a duration of 2 years. The drilling of the Sangaw North-1 well has already fulfilled the work commitment for the second sub-period."

That Peel Hunt announcement seems to have done something positive. Does anybody have access to the report?

I see 44p mentioned, but no real reason?

The FT market report on the broker target of 70p said it related to a multibag prospect in relation to Madagascar. It is my understanding that this project is still on hold due to the political situation. Has anyone seen the full broker report?

Telegraph today:

"Peel Hunt initiates buy on Sterling Energy, target price 70p."

That was it.

Cannot imagine why!

Cash, no debt, production (limited), licences with potential.

No news, sangsaw next drill, Cameroon disputed territory, Madagascar or indeed Mauritania.

Would I be right in thinking the positives here are:

1. Loads of cash relative to MC
2. Debt free

?

Thanks

Unless you have the ability to see through solid rock or have the benefit of devine intervention this was always going to be a punt. I know some people put a lot of faith in Fido but he was as clueless as the rest of us.

for bobobobob,

"As consideration, Murphy has paid to Sterling a contribution towards past costs and is committed to fully fund joint operations in relation to the current phase of exploration under the Contract which includes the drilling of one exploration well."

surely the boffins have interpreted the sangaw1 drill data by now!

i wonder if sangaw was a total loss, or, since the well was aiming at multiple zones rather than an optimum location for any single zone, is the data pointing towards anything of value at well # 2?

are they going to drill a second well at sangaw?

is the recent share price weakness cause by expectation of a placing to fund further drilling?

my bet is that they will raise $30 or $40 by placing very soon at about 35p per share... i know they have $100m in the bank, and that SEY will only have to fund 40% of the next sangaw well, and, that Murphy oil will fully fund the first well offshore cameroon, but there are other activities across the portfolio or new developments outside the current portfolio, that may need cash, and i recon that sangaw 2 will cost SEY up to $50m...

we will soon see

To : bobobob

Hi Bob, going back a few weeks ago to the RNS of 3rd Nov. 2011, could you please clarify your comment re : it not being a free carry with Murphy Oil ( see below ). From researching I have been doing this afternoon, am now uncertain as to the exact position many thanks for your help.

bobobob5 - 3 Nov'11 - 07:52 - 5059 of 5153

This seems a good deal to me. Whilst it is not a free carry, there is an (unstated) payment toward past costs.

Murphy produced 186,400 boepd in 2010, and their target for 2011 is 200,000 to 210,000 boepd. They are not small and employ a lot of peoeple.

I don't think they would have got involved with this deal unless they were pretty positive about it ''.
