24/8/2011 06:47 | FTSE 250 company Spirax-Sarco Engineering is a solid business that, unusually for an engineering group, proves relatively resilient in a downturn, writes the Questor team in the Telegraph. Spirax has a hugely diverse customer base, spanning breweries to oil refineries, paper mills and dairies. The company has grown sales by an average 9pc a year over the past 25 years even the tougher past five years it has managed an average 8pc a year. It is a hugely cash generative business, and has held or increased its dividend for the past 44 years. With that track record, the shares look cheap on 12.5 times next year's earnings, particularly for a company that beats its peers in a downturn. A strong buy, says Questor. | broadwood

09/8/2011 19:57 | In case any of you didn't understand the Fed statement, they said: 1 We are going to enter a deflationary depression 2 There is going to be a short term slowdown and the economy will be rubbish for at least two years 3 The economy is already in recession 4 Everything we have done for the last few years has been a waste of time and we are now out of bullets. 5 It's all over | topgunns

29/3/2011 14:49 | APAD, If you make enough profit so that you would have paid CGT if your stocks weren't in an ISA i.e. £10,100 in one year. You then return to the UK within 5 years of making that profit - then you would be liable to pay CGT even though it's in an ISA. That's my interpretation, but if you're unsure I'd contact HMRC. S | slowandsteady
29/3/2011 14:39 | SS are you saying that shares bought and sold within the 5 years will not incur CGT if you don't return within 5 years? Not that I intend to sell SPX ever but I have had so many shares stolen from me by takeovers. BTW I pay tax on share dividends in the UK AND in Jersey! apad | apad
29/3/2011 12:00 | In case anyone else is interested in ISA accounts with a non-UK address, here is what I've found out from HMRC. You can have an ISA if you live outside the UK, but you are not allowed to pay extra funds into it. As long as you stay out of the country for more than 5 years then there is no CGT on any profits. There are a number of companies that don't allow you but that's just their own rules. There are a number of companies that have misunderstood the rules SelfTrade. There are a very few companies that allow it Alliance Trust (thanks APAD) being the one I liked the best. Regards, S | slowandsteady
28/3/2011 14:19 | Alliance Trust I moved to Jersey and the change of address went through without a hitch. apad | apad

28/3/2011 13:50 | Hello, Does anyone know of a Share Dealing ISA that I can have without a UK address? I'm moving to New Zealand soon and Interactive Investor (iii) don't let you keep their ISA. HMRC do allow you to have one but you can't pay new funds into it. Apologies for the off topic and if you've seen this message on another BB but I've added it to all my active stocks. Thanks, S | slowandsteady

09/3/2011 11:24 | starting to recover and remains a good day trading stock to help reduce cost of core holding . Low volume helps in that regard ironically ! | arja

08/3/2011 15:57 | but bad overall market today and results need to beat expectation sby a wide morgin to perform on such a day . Chart still looks good and this stock is likely to do well in foreseeable future . | arja
