Linus, it's only disrupting things while governments still think they can contain the spread. It's becoming increasingly obvious that containment has not worked and we have to live with a new respiratory disease similar to flu.It will take time before governments accept the inevitable and, until then, there will be a hit to the world economy.

What a brilliant time to buy such a gem. Timing is everything.

I think you’re all missing the point. It’s the fact it’s contagious that is closing factories and disrupting supply chains that’s the issue. Most economies I fear will slip into recession and finance will be harder to get. It could be worse, you could be stuck in oil like me and needing 160% rise to break even. I can’t see the oil price recovering for a year or so.
Still, part of the risk of investing and many like me have been badly stung.

Stop perpetuating lies.."Overall, per the CDC, the death rate of those who have been infected with the flu this flu season is 0.05%. According to the research conducted by the Chinese CDC, the case-fatality rate of novel coronavirus in China is 2.3%. "https://www.health.com/condition/infectious-diseases/coronavirus-worse-than-flu

The irony of this manufactured panic is that this flu bug goes after the infirm and elderly, thus most likely releasing unused financial assets into younger hands who will go out and spend it. Or is the panic because the bug kills fewer than other flu bugs and thus there will be less money released from the clutches of the elderly? Whatever it is, these crashes reveal just how many shares are held by credit, and thus what we are seeing is deleveraging as the lenders whip away the brolly now that it's raining.

Imagine this scenario. Covid-19 arrives in major capitals around europe and a few cities in USA, perhaps just 300 to 400 cases in each.

At this point the government is telling people to work from home, not to go out to public places, avoid travel.

The economic impact (even though not a medical emergency at this point) will be massive. How long might it drag on for - weeks, months a year.

I think you need to read a bit. Woeful understanding of the medical situation and economic risk. Talk less, read more.

mknight, I agree the travel industry will suffer, but perhaps many of those who might have gone to exotic destinations will choose to holiday in their own countries and thus boost local economy's? I can see tabloid headlines about multi millionaire owners of Torquay B&B's! :¬)

alwaysevolving, I too wonder if there is an agenda behind this deliberate over hyping of a flu bug scare.

Lefrene, I may well have got my tin foil helmet on but like you say, it’s the media really whipping this thing up.

To what end? I’d say it’s a play by the elite to crash the markets just as trump is trying to get re elected. They don’t want him for another 4. They want one of their puppets in the White House.

Rest assured they all got out of the market before the puppet media started its campaign of impending doom.

Lowtrawle, yes it's a nasty flu bug, but the mortality rate so far is about 1% and it takes the elderly and weak, as do a good many other illnesses, it would seem unlikely to do much damage to the general economy. It's the media that's whipping up an hysteria, but to what ends?

Lowtrader, I don't think that's right - I think you are 10 times more likely to die from having contracted Coronavirus than flu.

That is factually totally incorrect."Overall, per the CDC, the death rate of those who have been infected with the flu this flu season is 0.05%. According to the research conducted by the Chinese CDC, the case-fatality rate of novel coronavirus in China is 2.3%. "https://www.health.com/condition/infectious-diseases/coronavirus-worse-than-fluInform yourself of the facts before you invest I urge you. And don't spread misinformation.

Covid-19 apparently has a slightly lower mortality rate than the flu. However, it looks to be easier to catch. As I see it, the world was trying to isolate it to China and have failed. As a result, it will spread widely in a similar way to flu. It's going to be with us for the long haul and we're just going to have to accept that.

Lowtrawler, it's difficult but nothing has changed with Solg, the huge resources are still in the ground, large miners still want those resources. Solg has enough cash in hand for many months. An over hyped nasty flu bug is made use of by the media but to what ends? This is a classic transfer of wealth from weak hands to stronger hands.
