Hard to put a number on a bid - there are quite a few options discussed on this and the LSE board for partial buys of Alpala/Cascabel etc and different routes through Cornerstone/DGP to change the dynamics of any bid play as well as broker notes of varying opinions. As an investor I'd be looking at 3x current share price if this all kicks off early next year. Some of the bigger numbers being bandied about would need more certainty from drilling but given the way Nick and the Board negotiated with BHP I think SOLG have will have a decent amount of power and influence in shaping a deal although those providing the cash always have big influence! I'm sure any take-out price 1 or 2 years down the line would be much bigger and given the amount of exploration still to come I have a feeling that Nick will use this card in discussions. He and SOLG don't need a deal right now. All of this is of course complete speculation but I use posts by many informed posters on this board and LSE to help shape my own views. I have a big holding in SOLG, 2nd only to BMN, and intend to keep it whether for a few months or a couple of years if necessary.

Looks like hole 64 was exciting to geologists, but hole 67 has to be exciting for investors, and I am glad its being included in the forthcoming MRE. Its got into 3rd on the league table of SOLG intersections, but the core of 544m of 2.17% CuEq is the stand-out. Shame 68 and 69 won't be in the MRE, but if you promise an MRE then its not a good idea to put if off, other companies may have timetabled discussing it into their own meetings.

It's good to see a positive drilling update after the string of corporate RNS', perhaps an MRE before Christmas? I doubt that BHP are too concerned about the PEA, after all they do have experience in opening up mines, they will be well aware of the huge savings due to the near by grid power and copious water on hand. They are most likely doing their own costings to compare with the PEA.

So what do you see the take out value being? Current mcap £700mln......?

I don't think this RNS changes much. Good to see a few sparkling comments to tease further but I think it's a bit more circumspect now that BHP are soon to be on the board. Interesting to note that when MRE2 is out it will cover 135km but by year end 180km will have been drilled - that's another 1/3 that won't even be in the MRE! Still think a likely time for bids to appear is after MRE and possibly before or just after PEA. Still a very positive outlook for SOLG and share price remains low IMHO. No way that I can see NM taking this to production. Short-term market volatility helps BHP keep the share price down.

Agree. This is not the news the market wants.
NM has said he will take company to production.
No whether he meant it is another matter.
We are no longer the darling of the market.

....Despite not being permitted to increase their stake, BHP Can however make an outright offer during this 2 year period and should they decide to do that an offer could come at any time. My bet would be after the MRE update is published?

Newcrest are not subject to the same restriction as BHP and can increase their stake at any point should they wish to.

The market's wants to see a hostile bidding war. Today's news is excellent and all adds to the company's value but we won't know the real value of SOLG until a bidder decides to launch a takeover, assuming they do of course

I bet BHP increase their stake

How very true we don't go up on good drill results.
Think we are being teased by management.
You know what I always say- it's not too late to buy.
In the good old days price would have shot up on this news.
How times have changed.

Arcadian - it's no problem fella. Plenty of cut and paste articles and a few of my ignorant opinions thrown in for good measure! If it contributes even a glimmer of enlightenment then it's all positive

if we can all make a profit then it's all worth it for the family and children cos that's the only reason I do this other than the intellectual and emotional challenge of investing and trading...it's for the wife and kids

good luck

No doubt potential interested parties are sitting on their hands waiting until the much heralded, but noticeably absent surge in copper prices arrives. So yes it could be some time coming, but perhaps ends all in a rush? In the meantime hopefully they just keep finding more of the stuff.

Newcrest put out a statmetn that they arent concernec about BHP being on board. BHP sign a deal saying they wont be buying anymore shares for 2 years by which point it will be derisked fuirther for them. Meanwhile markets globally are crashing. Easy to see why there are limited buyers currently. NO rush to get on board as i dont imagine there will be any surprise mining updates bnefore the MRE
