If the government is looking to mining to dig themselves out of their $52 billion debt, then perhaps observing the current effect that local issues can have on things of national importance, might concentrate a few hearts and minds in smoothing the path a bit more for the industry? I would guess a lot of hacked off miners and explorers are making their feelings felt to the appropriate minister. There might be a silver lining yet to this passing cloud.

jovi1, trawl back a few posts you will find a link from pob69 and a translation.

NO need for BHP to commit currently. They prefer to wait for risk to be reduced with their investments. They are keeping their options open by having a stake in several Ecuadorian projects. Not a chance they increase position with a court case being held overf a country. Impossible to justify that to shareholders

greenelf, nothing has changed at the company other than they have this morning confirmed the surface grades at several sites, which look positive. What can they say, "We see the market is spooked by worries of a court case that the President has said will have no power".

Market cap £500 million when just one site Alpalla is valued at over £3 billion with 12 and probably more sites to be proved.

After this size fall I would say an RNS is due to clarify, and hopefully vindicate my small scoop

The bigger the drop the higher the bounce especially if there is a scramble to get back in. And if all this nonsense about banning mining comes to nothing next week this could go north quickly. (Probably not as quickly as it’s fallen though!)

Perhaps the classic time to buy when others are fearful?

Most long term holders had sold out some or all SOLG.
All been honest about it.
Those I have left I will keep.
We will all be watching events unfold with view to buy in ?

Hard to know what will turn it around, sometimes it's just a round figure such as the 25p we're at now. Certainly those who want to take a stake can do so at huge discount. Nope 25p gone!

It looks like a panic because of unknowns. It's a speculative business which only has value at a point of sale to a miner, and it's competition between those miners that creates the value along with prices for the end product. So nothing has changed in the physical world, so my guess is the up coming court case became known to many yesterday evening and thus placed a wall of sells for this morning.

The company have placed that rns this morning as a signal that there is a lot more to their assets than just Alpala. This knock to a fragile industry might nudge the government into speeding up those drill permits, before the big boys decide to walk away?

or if it is the court case then that's got to be worth a punt nearer the time on a positive outcome. If this is the result of a negative suspected outcome then you'd hope the reserve would be true.
