Have held for several years. As airlines go, this one has outperformed operationally by a country mile, but its rating still reflects those of the generally poorly performing industry. The anticipated growth in shareholder returns over the next couple of years should force that to change.

I bought in today, prospective pe ratio below the yield
I assume the slowdown in the Aussie economy is holding these back, but the atr deal with virgin is stronger than the share price suggests,I hope so anyway!

Further good news just released. They were only on a prospective PER of 5 for the current year BEFORE today's news.

Skywest Granted FIFO Contract with Major Mining Company

Skywest, the Australian and South East Asia regional airline, is pleased to announce that BHP Billiton Iron Ore has selected the Company as the preferred vendor to provide air charter services for its new Jimblebar mine located 41km East of Newman in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.

Initial contracted charter services for the Jimblebar mine are planned to commence with twice-daily flights between Perth and Newman once a week, using 100 seat Fokker F100 aircraft.  Over the 21 month contract term, Skywest plans to introduce an additional Airbus A320 to the fleet from as early as February 2013. The new services for the Jimblebar Project will be in addition to the existing weekly services Skywest already provides to the Company.

After the initial launch, it is anticipated that services provided by Skywest will increase to include twice daily return flights up to three days a week from early to mid-2013. Increased capacity on peak flights is also anticipated to commence once the Airbus A320 enters service, increasing from 100 seats to 168 seats.

Executive Chairman, Jeff Chatfield said:  "We are delighted to have secured this contract with BHP Billiton Iron Ore. This further strengthens our relationship while also further underpinning our scheduled FIFO charter business, which provides an ever growing visible revenue stream."

Etihad have increased their stake in Virgin Australia to 10% today, quoting they want to expand and invest in regional air markets, has to viewed as a big positive for Skywest with ARAN link with Virgin.

Will be interesting to see whether yesterdays share buy back was a one off or something more substantial, now costs have been addressed and Virgin link up settled down could see a nice recovery from here.

Anyone help me with Level 2 as looking to add.

Earnings heavily down as expected due to the upheaval with the Virgin alliance, but not as much as they could have been, or what was indicated in the WHI forcasts. Revenue growth strong. Margins should largely restore over the next couple of years.

Well no posts for 5 months has to be a record so today with results and a buy back seems a ideal time to break that run!!

All in all a good set of figures and much better than I was expecting, no more cross hiring of planes and less rental charges for the F100's should help figures going forward as well, after a poor run I have added today.

Interesting news out of Flybe this morning

I don't know them well enough to know whether this is just good asset management, an opportunistic deal, or signs of problems in their underlying business, but it's only 2 years.

I was thinking about all the effort that will go into this; the repainting, the recruiting and relocating, the contracts etc etc

Just shows how good Skywests 10 year deal is with Virgin.

Imagine how much better the figures would look if they were reporting in GBP?

Same business though.

Davydoo,

In terms of what your Broker has told you, I think it's accurate. CDI Interests do not count as a market listing in the eyes of HMRC. Therefore, SKYW is NOT ISA-eligible.

Worth confirming the CDI Status with the company themselves though.

Skywest's australian listing is detailed here;

My broker says it doesn't count as listed because its a CDI 'Chess Depository Interest'

I would appreciate comments from anyone else about your own knowledge or experience, before I confirm with Skywest themselves.

Many Thanks

Interesting comment though about the market not recognising the Virgin deal, as the share price is where it is before there was any hint of that deal.

Yet its due to grow to be bigger than their existing (non-charter) business in Western Australia.
