Can anyone briefly fill me in on the dramatic history of SHI? I am looking for recovery plays and obviously a couple of years ago this was at a peak of 1400 and not having been at this level since 1999.

Just a rough outline will do.

junior21,

Thanks for your response. Only just seen it.

Kanwar,

IMHO, no. Chalk & cheese. It would be like M&S buying one of their own suppliers - why would they?

Maybe a better buy for one of the big merchant groups

Travis Perkins - St Gobain (Jewson)

A slight pick up in the market during winter would have a large benefit to SIG share price (imo) it also fits well with Carbon reduction Green lobby.

Ian

My opinion, for what it's worth, is that the recent rise is comparitively little compared to what the share price once was, so not worth reading too much into it.

Generally, I feel that since the placing the company is in a lot better position to benefit from any upturn. Granted, there may be more downside to come, but I believe the upside outweighs the downside with the share price at these levels. As ever, time will tell.

Just started looking at this as a recovery play. Well done to KingL for his posts in 07; he certainly saw the writing on the wall for this one! I suppose the current odds on success/failure depend on whether we're in for a double-dip recession - the recent rise seems to be based more on a general 'feelgood' factor that the recession is over (hence lots of building stocks bouncing e.g. housebuilders, TPK etc) but this has not yet fed through into the real world where construction is still at a very low ebb. If the housing market remains depressed, the rise in the share price could be a false dawn which is not supported by earnings. What does anyone think?

Regards, Ian

Seems to be stuck with no positive buy ratings at the moment. It just seems someone out there is stock building?...

Interesting in June/July you had contributors who were predicting sub 50p. They have disappeared and you now have those suggesting 2.00. When you look at the likes of TPK and builders these appear to have some catching up to do?? Think I may dip my toes in if we get a Sept sell off 1.30/1.20ish level

People waiting for results before buying in? From what I can see results were broadly better than expected. I bought recently and am pleased with today to be honest (so far anyway) :)

Well it looks as though the market likes the results.

Definitely looks a safer bet to survive the current climate and kick on once the economy improves than it has previously.
