25/11/2007 12:21 | I've just read a full page article about Henry C in the business pages of the Mail on Sunday. I am not clever enough to reproduce it here but it is a background article of Henry's fight with Roman A and quite clearly the court action is going to give a lot of publicity to both parties. | gonja

18/11/2007 09:42 | Abramovich faces UK court By Iain Dey Last Updated: 12:02am GMT 18/11/2007 A London-listed oil company has finally won the right to get its long-running dispute with Roman Abramovich, the owner of Chelsea Football Club, fought out in a British court. Sibir Energy, the biggest company on the Aim market, claims that it was cheated out of its 50 per cent stake in a huge Russian oil field by Sibneft, the oil company Abramovich sold to Russia's state oil firm Gazprom. The company has been attempting to sue Abramovich for its share of the field, estimated to be worth up to £1bn. The joint venture company through which Sibir owned its holding was placed into liquidation in Russia some time ago. But the High Court last week appointed a liquidator of its own, who has been granted powers to pursue Abramovich through the British legal system. The liquidator, Stephen Cork of Smith & Williamson, has now launched proceedings. In a bizarre twist, the case has embroiled Boris Berezovsky, the London-based Russian dissident locked in a continuing row with Abramovich over a £5bn fortune. The two men were formerly friends and partners. It is understood that Berezovsky has been dragged into the Sibir row so that the liquidators can still claim the assets, even if Berezovsky goes on to win any legal claims against Abramovich. The Sibir case has been rumbling on for several years. Elements of the dispute have been heard in courts in the British Virgin Islands and Moscow. Sibir claims its stake in the joint venture was diluted from 50 per cent to 1 per cent without its knowledge. Sibneft and Abramovich have always claimed that the transaction was legal. Chalva Tchigirinsky, the Russian entrepreneur who is Sibir's biggest shareholder, has previously said that he is in talks with Gazprom about reaching a settlement. | banj

17/11/2007 10:39 | Sibir edges closer to £1bn legal claim against Abramovich Sibir Energy, the Russian adventurer founded by Aberdeen lawyer Henry Cameron, yesterday took a step closer to bringing billionaire Roman Abramovich to court. Sibir said the High Court had granted its request to appoint a provisional liquidator for Russian operator Yugraneft, allowing the group to bring to London its £1bn legal claim against Abram- ovich over a lucrative Siberian oilfield. The court has granted powers to the liquidator, Stephen Cork of Smith & Williamson, to issue proceedings in a commercial court in London on behalf of Yugraneft against Abramovich, the Chelsea Football Club owner, his associate, the high-profile businessman Boris Berezovsky, and a holding company, Millhouse Capital. "This is now a matter for the provisional liquidator and the English commercial court in London," said Cameron, Sibir's chief executive. For five years, Sibir has been in dispute with Abramovich and his companies over the dilution of its 50% stake in Russian joint venture Sibneft-Yugra, the developer of a 1.8 billion-barrel oilfield in western Siberia. Sibir held its shares in Sibneft-Yugra through Yugraneft, and Abramovich and his partners through Sibneft. Sibir's 50% stake was diluted to less than 1% in a manoeuvre which saw Sibneft maintaining its 50% interest, with the remainder transferred to three offshore companies which were later revealed to be controlled by Sibneft. Abramovich has maintained that the transfers were shareholder-approved The Siberian fields are estimated to be worth around £2bn, and Sibir hopes to recover half of that. Abramovich sold Sibneft to Russian gas giant Gazprom for £6.5bn two years ago. Sibir initially took the case to a court in British Virgin Islands, where the offshore companies are believed to be registered. The court, however, dismissed the case for lack of jurisdiction. 12:06am today | banj
