Although wernluck didn't answer your question on FX, it appears that the middle prong of the pitchfork was the area for the bounce - am closely watching to see if this holds

If you haven't already, I suggest you print and keep wernluck's posts at 256479 and 256480.

They are so simple but they are gems.

Yes a spike down.

It is one of the problems when trading currency pairs - large spikes.

Your answer was what I was hoping for. Understood.
Did you see the euro/$ tumble on the release of Janet Y's statement?
It looked like a large drop on my screen but it wasn't really - just getting my head round the digit points on forex..

Yes the double meaning of sell and buy in the trading context can be confusing.

Scenario 1
I am able to get $1.80 to the £

Scenario 2
I am able to get $1.40 to the £

In scenario 1 a £ gets you $1.80 or if you are an American and want to buy a £ it will cost $1.80.

In scenario 2 a £ gets you $1.40 or if you are an American and want to buy a £ it will cost $1.40

Therefore the £ is stronger in scenario 1.

Does this help ? Say so if you have further questions.

Bracke - in the absence of Penycae, can I clarify a basic question with you re a strong v weak dollar -
I am thinking of when I go on holidays and I am buying foreign currency for example to the US.

Scenario 1
I am able to get $1.80 to the £
Scenario 2
I am able to get $1.40 to the £

I assume that it is correct to say that the $ is weaker in scenario 1?
And that the £ to the dollar is stronger in scenario 2?

Thanks Bracke.
I really was being stupid re 'limit sell order' - I am used to seeing 'sell' as being the closing trade hence my confusion.
As you probably saw on FX, lebiche posted that Janet Yellen's statement is due out at 1330 so that should give some pointers.

"thanks wernluck. What is the difference between a limit sell order and profit target order? Sorry to be tedious."
===============================================================================

limit sell order = The figure at which he wants to go short.

profit target order = The figure at which he wants to cover his short and take the profit.

Your thought ref Yellen and the trade is not stupid it is applicable.

Ref BARC

You may find this of use.

Also re the euro/£ trade - I don't know how the DOW affects the trade - I expect volatility with Janet Yellen this afternoon. At the risk of sounding stupid, I will pose that question to wern now on FX
