Interactive Brokers didn't pay up until very early morning on Friday 30th. They're definitely getting worse and don't seem to give a damn about it either [grrrr].

It'll do a genuine 250 miles by which time I need a p1ss, coffee and a sandwich. Depending on the battery level (charges quicker the more depleted the battery is) I can add 100 miles within 15 minutes. I also get free Supercharging (which is nice). I only do a long trip (more than 500 miles round) per quarter and charge at home for 20p per kWh. It's nice waking up in the morning with a full tank (£12 from empty). As I said earlier, I get that it's not for everyone but for me it hits the spot. spud

what about the long time to charge it up on a trip,i know tesla are one of the best in many ways but when you can go into a petrol garage fill up in under 10 mins its still takes some beating.

I've had my Tesla since late December and can say hands down it's the most impressive car I've owned. The Tesla charging network is faultless as well. And yes, I've had Porsches ect ect. I think there is a lot of built in prejudice from those who haven't driven, let alone owned an electric vehicle. I can't ever see myself going back to an ICE vehicle but accept they aren't for everyone. spud

The penny is dropping….. Gotta laugh at the poor beggars who already have one
My son has just convinced himself that an X3 electric thing is best for him ….. he is a petrol head but because if the company car tax breaks and salary sacrifice scheme he is convinced it’s the right thing to do - I’ll give it 6 months until he is looking at ways of getting out of that donkey…

Maybe if the UK government grew a pair of balls and tackled the real problems in the UK (instead of pandering to the cretinous needy emo attention seeking minorities) they would have the money to fix the infrastructure…;…

We have grown used to the soaring energy bills. We have started to accept the restrictions on air travel, and the expensive modifications we will have to make to our homes. But now it turns out that there is another consequence of our catastrophically poorly planned rush to hit Net Zero. What used to be a pleasant summer drive through the British countryside has been turned into an assault course through a minefield of potholes better suited to Kaleb Cooper of Clarkson's Farm than the average driver – for the simple reason that nobody had the sense to consider the impact on the roads of forcing us to switch to electric cars.News that EVs damage roads twice as much as their petrol equivalents as the pothole crisis grows on Britain's roads brings together two great failings of the British state.First, potholes are now an epidemic on our decrepit road network. The tarmac is littered with hazardous bumps and craters. Tyres are being worn much more quickly as a result, creating new hazards: worn and defective tyres are among the leading causes of accidents on UK roads. And even if there is no collision, or even damage to the vehicle, journeys are punctured by stomach churning bumps and jolts. The state of our country roads are not what you would expect in a developed nation.... Daily Telegraph

"i read that the cost of smart meters was added to the consumers bills spread over several years..

i do not see any advantage to the consumer having these personally as they are all part of the governments plan to control your leccy usage and be able to turn it off when demand cannot be met at peak times.."

Funnily enough I received a communication, yet again, from Shell saying my metering was now too old and needed to be replaced!

Seems to work fine to me...ticks over, I send in a reading then pay in full on the due date.

Not having a smart meter here.

New Shell strategy will drive higher returns

The latest strategy at Shell (SHEL), under new boss Wael Sawan, is positive for investors and is likely to drive higher returns in future, says Berenberg.

Analyst Henry Tarr reiterated his ‘buy’ recommendation and target price of £28 on the Citywire Elite Companies AAA-rated oil major, which rose 0.9%, or 21.4p, to £23.40 on Monday.

At a capital markets day, Sawan set out his vision for the future of the company, which includes a move away from longer-term volume targets to focus on ‘cost discipline, moving to targeting return on capital employed across its business, along with a near-term improvement in underlying free cashflow per share of 10% per annum to 2025’, Tarr said.

‘We view the strategy as being positive for equity holders and believe that over time the strategy will drive higher shareholder returns and a re-rating of the stock, which remains attractively valued at 7.4 times 2024 price/earnings,’ he said.

As it turns out, in 2022, fossil fuels accounted for 82% of global energy consumption, as renewable energy growth remains slow. And where renewables are gaining in terms of the energy mix, they're taking away from nuclear, which does not emit greenhouse gases.

Renewable capacity grew by a combined 266 gigawatts – led by solar, as Shadia Nasralla reports here. But greenhouse gas emissions rose, coal demand hit its greatest rate since 2014, and renewables only account for about 7.5% of energy consumption and 12% of power generation – taking away from nuclear, with coal, still making up 35% of power generation, in first place.

"We are still heading in the opposite direction to that required by the Paris Agreement,” said Juliet Davenport, president of the Energy Institute.

Letter to Business SecretaryJUNE 26, 2023 42 COMMENTSDear KemiThe UK government rightly wants to grow the economy and cut inflation. As Business Minister there are crucial changes you could make to help both aims. The proposed ban on new petrol and diesel cars will destroy our car making capacity prematurely without replacing it by as much electric car output. Only the UK is proposing such an early write off and closure of so many factories with loss of jobs. Businesses are going to put their remaining petrol and diesel capacity elsewhere. From 2030 UK buyers will import nearly new petrol and diesel cars instead of buying UK ones. Lift the ban to rescue the car industry. The UK is losing capacity in energy intensive industries like steel, ceramics, glass, fertilisers and much else thanks to having the  highest carbon taxes in the world. These drive up prices and progressively close factories. Suspend the emissions trading and carbon tax regime. You can then save the big subsidies you are forced to offer as partial offsets. This action will save a lot of UK jobs and boost other tax revenue. As the leader of Ministerial efforts to cut out needless regulation, bring forward the repeal of EU laws laying down product specifications. Keep a strong safety law and allow all goods of merchandisable  quality to be offered for sale. This will boost innovation and competition.Co operate with the Energy department in expanding UK supplies of cheap reliable energy. You cannot have a successful industrial strategy with dear power, unreliable  power and import dependence. The EU with an overzealous net zero policy has  hit  our industry hard whilst boosting world CO 2 by relying too much on imports with extra CO 2 in manufacture and transport. Please back made in the UK, and change these damaging policies.Yours sincerelyJohn Redwood

Lady Jane Simkins ????@JaneSim66Why, because that is what they are told to do by their masters at the UN/WEF, John. You already know this. They know it will cause carnage with the UK economy and our lives but they simply don't care. If you really care, then speak out against UN Agenda 2030 in the HOC.

they already admit when the country is all electric they will not have the required amount of generating capacity needed to meet the demand, what a world its going to be in the future??

let all government buildings be converted to the new wonderful ideas they have to heat buildings, like heat pumps etc first to show how good they are,not ?????????????lol
