A reminder that full utilisation would be > $1bn - not what I noted this morning.

"I don't think anyone expects them to make "full utilisation"!"-------The person that tried to use the full tax losses figure this morning to once again justify the egregiously disgusting acquisition of tailwind clearly expects that! Now back in the iggy bin you go (filtered)!

What potential labour policy appeals to the most voters ?

Tell the public that and get the votes.
After that arrange a "review" of implications - does it impact jobs and longer term tax revenue and kick the can down the road....
leaving available policy to reprise just in time for the next election .... rinse and repeat.

Even that will make full utilisation of previous losses difficult!

I don't think anyone expects them to make "full utilisation"!

They spcifically said they won't backdate and haven't even suggested that they'd restrict brought forward tax losses.

"I've not read your link "-----In that case, You might want to read the link. While plans are not confirmed they have flip flopped a few times from not wanting to backdate to being adamant they will both increase the tax and also backdate. As I say , it's not confirmed and will become clear later in the year ...

So many jobs will go then all of the tax revenue dries up as Serica pointed out decommissioning will accelerate

Labours potential tax plans :

Labour have subsquently confirmed that they would not backdate the tax changes they are planning

Yes, I agree bounty - I looked into it a while back. Retrospective is highly unlikely.

I've not read your link but my understanding is that it's just the development tax reduction that's potentially affected going forwards if/when Labour win not historical tax losses. Retrospective legislation would be highly unusual so I wouldn't expect carried forward historical tax losses to be affected.

Labours potential tax plans :https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/65c66cbf9c5b7f000c951c82/Opposition_costing_-_Oil_and_Gas_Levy__003__final.pdfNothing confirmed but would be cautious as using tax losses to justify egregious acquisition cost until Labour show their true colours When someone tells you who they are, believe them !

The tax losses have little value until Labour confirm their plans.

That's fundamentally incorrect. They made use of them in 2023 and will make use of them in 2024 also. Unless you are implying that they will retrospectively claw the tax back?

Disappointed to see the stock market doesn't seem as enamoured as I was at 7am this morning with the results. Will have to re-read in the evening to make sure I haven't missed anything...
