Indeed gnnmartin.

There must be some red faces around for the incorrect,"billion" figure has been widely quoted.

Zion Market Research have it correctly quantified.

"New York, NY, Aug. 19, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Zion Market Research has published a new report titled “Soil Moisture Sensor Market By Product (Soil Water Potential and Volumetric) and By Application (Weather Forecasting, Landscaping, Residential, Forestry, Sports Turf, Construction & Mining, and Research): Global Industry Perspective, Comprehensive Analysis, and Forecast, 2018–2025̶1;. According to the report, the global soil moisture sensor market was USD 129 million in 2018 and is expected to reach approximately USD 346 million by 2025, at a CAGR of around 15.1% between 2019 and 2025.

A soil moisture sensor is an electronic device used for detecting the moisture or water content in the soil. The demand for soil moisture sensors is flourishing worldwide for diversified applications, such as conservation of water resources, prevention of soil degradation, and wetland detection. A soil moisture sensor mainly uses two components—potentiometer for adjustment of sensitivity and LEDs for display.

The demand for soil moisture monitoring is escalating worldwide due to the increasing water expenses and the rising need for improvising water productivity. Soil moisture sensors continuously monitor water levels that help farmers in optimizing their water usage. Farmers are significantly relying on soil moisture sensors for interpreting the actual soil water condition and specific water needs of crops. This is the primary growth factor of the soil moisture sensor market globally. The market demand for soil moisture sensor is also fuelled by these sensors’ significant contribution in taking relevant irrigation decisions. With the help of soil moisture sensors, one can confidently decide the amount of water and correct time for irrigation to prevent low-quality crop production. Thus, to produce maximum yield farmers immensely rely on crop feasibility. Soil moisture sensors mainly indicate scarcity or reduction in water level, which helps in maintaining the overall crop yield.

The worldwide adoption of soil moisture sensors is increasing as it not only assists farmers in maintaining accurate water needs of crops but also prevents the degradation of water resources. The market for soil moisture sensor is propelling worldwide, due to its significant contributions to the agriculture sector, as these sensors enhance the overall food production. However, inconsistency in data accuracy may hinder this market growth to some extent."

mudbath, typo there presumably. I guess the 2025 figure should be 325.8 million, not billion.

hastings quoted from the AGM that:-

"the star performers had continued to be ATIK and Sentek."

Interesting then that in a report on Global Trends, released yesterday, the Global Soil Moisture Sensor Market was valued at USD 129.7 Million in 2017 and is projected to reach USD 325.8 Billion by 2025, growing at a CAGR of 13.2% from 2018 to 2025.

Topmost Leading Key Players in this report include

Delta-T Devices, Meter Group, Stevens Water Monitoring Systems, SENTEK..

Re Ken Ford sale, his timing was good and it gives him a nice Christmas present but its not huge on the scale of things. Share will probably retrace a bit but that was expected anyway after such a good run. Look at it as a buying opp if it goes under 70 again.

Once again in agreement with rivaldo, no problem at all for me with the sale.I recall when David Braben at FDEV first sold some shares, contrary to what some read into it, they were a whole lot higher a year on!

Judging by LinkedIn Ken Ford is about 67 years old. A small sale which still leaves him with 83% of his holding in SDI and gives him a large profit on a holding held for a long time is likely a signal about his age and his confidence in holding the vast majority of his holding.

Good luck to him.

Ken Ford, Chairman, has sold 250,000 ordinary shares of 1 pence each in the Company ("Ordinary Shares"), at a price of 78 pence per Ordinary Share.

Following this sale, Ken Ford holds 1,250,000 Ordinary Shares (1.3% of the Company's issued share capital).

I held off buying of late - too late, I thought.
The above confirms. Not confidence-shaking, but a signal IMO.

Also worth mentioning riv that the forecast Adj pre-tax profit of £5.1m on revenue of £29.3m for next year would be a highly commendable result.

We're only a few months away from the next financial year, for which 4.3p EPS is forecast. A current year P/E of 18.6 at 80p is pretty reasonable for a company with SDI's track record and excellent management.

Plus there may be another acquisition or two in the next year given SDI's good cash flows.

Plus given that H1 has already produced 47% of this year's forecast EPS, SDI may with the sizeable Chell Instruments acquisition last month beat forecasts and require upgrades.

Absolutely Ayl30. Well run - this is the key. Just got to keep hoping they make smart acquisitions and don't get caught up with the need to keep on making acquisitions at a set pace. We need them to keep faith with their buying criteria. I like the fact debt was only £0.57m at the end of October - wonder how long it will take post acquisition of Chell Instruments they will get back to that? Fils

Good H1 results - SDI themselves say they're "strong" - with a confident outlook expecting results nicely in line with expectations.

Great to see decent organic growth as well as that from acquisitions, and a continuing high order book.

Sensors and control companies grew by 58%, and digital imaging by 29%.

Lots going on in terms of relocations and synergy maximisation - reasserting what we already know about capable management.

An encouraging story today which should help SDI's prospects over time:

Excerpts:

"$500m boost for British science as US developer seeks to build new labs

British science is to be handed a major boost from a US property developer preparing to plough up to $500m (£380m) into building new laboratories across the country.

San Diego-based real estate firm Creative Science Properties has teamed up with estate agent Savills to scout out locations in Cambridge, Oxford and London where new labs could be built."

"Mr Sadler said decisions over where the firm will spend money would be "opportunity led" and could include locations outside Cambridge, Oxford and London."

"Investor Legal & General is already working with Oxford University to build a new £4bn science park as part of the life sciences boom."

SDI not hanging around - they've launched two new products:

"Our next generation CMOS camera

Following the success of our first ever CMOS camera, the Atik Horizon, we are pleased to announce the next generation Horizon II.

As with the original, the Atik Horizon II contains a 16MP CMOS sensor with a 21.9mm diagonal. This ensures the camera is an ideal option for those looking to use shorter exposure times and maintains the exceptional cost-per-pixel of the original Atik Horizon.

"Launch of time-saving pre-tested AC600 PCR workstations from Syngene
November 28th, 2019

Syngene, a world-leading manufacturer of image analysis solutions, is delighted to announce it is now supplying the AirClean® AC600 Series of PCR Workstations. Some of the Workstations include HEPA filtration and all use UV irradiation to minimise the risk of airborne DNA contamination, saving scientists time by producing consistent quality DNA from their PCR.
