Strongly recommend subscribing Rivaldo - lots of great content and tools and a team that cares about private investors. I'm not on the payroll btw!

Name change! 'SDI Group' - I suppose it better represents the broad range of companies now under their umbrella.

Fair enough my friend 🙂

We’ll have more insights when we see the next deal from both companies..incidentally SDI were using the same independent ’scout’ to source deals as JDG ..indeed he was at the AGM before last so maybe his absence this year was a sign that conflicts of interest are an issue now..not sure🤔

I maintain there is an overlap, both companies would happily snap up a niche scientific business producing 750k ebitda with a good growth runway. JDG's largest current profit producers were picked up in this area.
They may not overlap on a scientific sector basis but Mike recently stated they are not constrained by current areas of operation. As hastings said there are plenty of businesses in the arena to allow both JDG & SDI to thrive. I hold both.

Evening CH...I’m pretty sure Judges are targeting bigger businesses now...I’m also pretty sure they alluded to that in their last results Q&A ...it’s an inevitable consequence of their increasing success/size ,possibly that has been part of the reason why no deals have emerged in the last 12-18months...itR17;s illogical to suppose SDI & JDG are targeting similar size acquisitions given both are looking for a balance of materiality vs execution risk

Best Regards 🙂

Rhom,

Actually the last 3 JDG's deals were companies in the £0.5m to £1m ebitda range which is exactly the area that Mike recently described to be SDI's current sweet spot size of target businesses.
Saying that it seems clear that SDI have a specific target that they expect to acquire this financial year going by both Ken & Mike's recent comments.

Good evening elglanto

It’s an interesting point you make ....actually the reverse situation is true, JDG are an excellent business but now need to acquire larger businesses to grow...in a market where targets are large enough to attract private equity competition

SDI are still in the lower leagues so deal sizes are really too small for private equity, you make a good point re share issuance I’m instinctively opposed to it but recognise that thus far all issuance has been cumulatively value accretive & has accelerated growth & value accretive but I’m expecting FCF & the enlarged bank facility with accordion to be the primary funding for acquisitions going forward

Why would Judges have any impact on SDI's acquisition programme? We are talking about a very fragmented space with some 2k businesses that fit the bill.I think we we will have another decent purchase concluded in the coming months and I remain a firm holder.

Thanks for the answer. While I do agree that the share price increased quite a bit as well as the earnings, the revenue per share actually decreased since 2015 (however, the net earnings still grew).

Also, pireric mentionned that:
"The increase in shares was necessary because the company was coming from a very low market cap, and so taking on leverage at those levels to make the acquisitions probably would not have been available or have made sense"

While I do understand this point from the earlier days, SDI issued shares earlier this year for another aquisition. However I would think that now, having some leverage would have been fine and could have lead to more value for the shareholders in the future than with a share dilution that I more see as a short term solution. What would be your opinion on that?

Finally, there is another UK company named Judges Scientific PLC which is also in the Buy and Build strategy in the scientific domain. Judge has now a much larger size than SDI and therefore more "acquisition power". So as anyone here studied the possibility that Judge might prevent or limit SDI growth/acquisitions?

I've just received another reason for today's rise - SDI has been tipped today on email by Regency Capital as "The great British science stock you've never heard of", offering "growth at a very reasonable price".

If you register you can get the 3 page report for free. I suppose all PR is good PR.....

Agree, excellent research, thank you very much. The share price action is more likely the impact of Boris agreeing a Brexit deal with the EU though
