Things rarely go up in a straight line.
However there have been some positive opinions and results lately that brighten the outlook for SMT.

Here is the article that I meant to post before.


'In response, companies perceived to be the AI winners have seen their share prices bid up, with NVIDIA Corp NVDA

leading the way. The company, which manufactures the computer chips that leading AI systems are developed and implemented on, has seen its share price rise by 162% year-to-date (to 8 June). Chris Ford, fund manager of Sanlam Global Artificial Intelligence, described Nvidia as the most important company in the AI space.

The big technology giants, at the forefront of AI innovation, have also seen their share prices boosted, namely Apple Inc AAPL

, Microsoft, Amazon.com Inc AMZN

1.36%
, Meta, Tesla Inc TSLA

0.07%
and Alphabet. Along with Nvidia, these seven stocks account for around 90% of gains on Walls Street’s S&P 500 this year. The index is up around 10% year-to-date.



Following that and very important but doesn't seem to have registered with many is this....

Chipmaker Nvidia (NVDA) is set to release a new gaming processor with slower performance in China to meet U.S. export restrictions. Nvidia said it worked closely with the U.S. government during the development of the new Nvidia RTX 4090D, which has 11% fewer processing cores than non-Chinese models. Nvidia shares dropped after the company's third-quarter earnings release had analysts concerned about the impact of the export restrictions. Shares were up 0.20% in the pre-market with the news of the chip adjustment.'

"Temu is owned by Pinduoduo, which we've backed since 2018" Extract from Tom Slater in Times article 2nd Jan.No mention of whether SMT are involved in Shein.

Article in todays Times business section by Tom Slater.Mentions Temu and Shein,deep discount Chinese operations.Artificial intelligence prospects have prompted SMT to buy back into Meta.

Moderna is up over 10% today on an Oppenheimer upgrade.

I have seen a very cheering article about some of the expected profits and further potential in some of SMT's investments!

I will try and seek it out.

I thought this was a bit harsh but they always do treat what they see as a financial crime,more harshly than anything else.
That's capitalism for you.

Talking of Moderna, (someone was)apparently their shares have rallied somewhat and this is due to results of a clinical trial making a step forward in the field of mRNA technology. This trial of a new Moderna vaccine found that it reduces the chance of relapse or death from skin cancer by half when paired with Merck's immunotherapy drug Keytruda.

There may be a need for another trial to confirm this but Moderna hopes regulators will ensure the treatment is available to patients, as early as 2025. Merck and Moderna are testing the combination in other cancers, with a late - stage trial in lung cancer started recently. It's thought the findings above will give a boost to Moderna's post pandemic strategy of developing new applications for it's mRNA technology.

Just for the record.

Friday's after-hours RNS re Share-Buyback.

This is the SIXTH company purchase of shares in a month.

That's really good.

Combined with general good news from USA, this bodes very well indeed for ScoMo.

Observers will already have noted just how much the Discount-to-NAV has recently and already tightened.




2.

The elefant in the room.... Next year US Presidential elections.

This is what the bookies think

Trump to win 6-5
Biden to win 2-1


The bookies clearly place opinion-dividing Trump as the favourite to be next US President.


It is to be recalled that the markets boomed under Trump's last presidency.
