Just received this full news release for ProReveal's use in the Atlanta hospital:

"Synoptics Health Release: Piedmont Atlanta Hospital, USA, Successfully Uses Proreveal Protein Detection Test To Optimize Its Decontamination Process And Maintain Excellent Patient Safety

8/3/2016 2:02:19 PM

Cambridge, UK: Synoptics Health, a manufacturer of innovative digital imaging systems for healthcare applications, today announced that its ProReveal test to accurately detect proteins on surgical instruments is being used at Piedmont Atlanta Hospital, USA, a leader in patient care, to optimise the performance of their washer-disinfection process. This is helping to protect patients at the hospital from accidentally contracting infections such as vCJD (Creutzfeldt Jakob Disease) from contaminated surgical instruments.

The highly sensitive ProReveal in-situ fluorescence test is being used in the Sterile Processing Department (SPD) at Piedmont Atlanta Hospital to precisely quantify how much protein remains on surgical instruments after they have been decontaminated post-operation. Since ProReveal provides semi-quantitative data on residual protein, SPD personnel can test how well the cleaning process has performed by detecting proteins that cannot be seen with the naked eye. This makes benchmarking the process and then assessing new detergents or methods of hand washing surgical instruments for example, a quicker and more accurate task.

Linda Schultz, Central Service Manager at Piedmont Atlanta Hospital explained: “In 2016 we purchased the ProReveal and were amazed at what we could see using this system. The test has helped us to detect where proteins gather which we just couldn’t see with the naked eye and it even alerted us to the washer running out of detergent as the amount of protein left on an instrument one day was around 14 micrograms, well over our acceptable safe limit of 0-5 micrograms/instrument.”

Linda continued: “Now we use the ProReveal each shift and our SPD staff tests an instrument from every level of the washer. By changing some of the conditions in our washer-decontaminators we have managed to get our process to routinely clean to between 0 and 5 micrograms of residual protein per instrument, which we’re proud of. We like using the ProReveal because it gives us a level of comfort that the surgical instruments we’re sending back into the operating room are really clean and this makes us feel great about the job we’re doing here for our patients.”

Guy Fiddian, of Synoptics Health concluded: “Forward thinking hospitals are really starting to embrace the ProReveal and we’re delighted that our test’s benchmarking capabilities have helped SPD staff at Piedmont Atlanta Hospital to get the best out of their decontamination process. Their intelligent use of the ProReveal is significantly reducing the risk of patients contracting potentially serious infections from reprocessed surgical instruments and is testimony that this excellent hospital takes patient care very seriously.”"

Welcome rivaldo and others who find it of interest.I think you are spot on re the US where interest has it seems been building. However, despite the sluggish mechanics of the NHS, Hospitals will have no choice but to take a close look at or adopt ProReveal. The distinct advantage SDI has, is that ProReveal as a novel device is not having to create a market, rather, readily providing a solution to the DOH's own now stringent guidelines. The company has quite rightly just got about the wider business without shouting about ProReveal until there is something to report. The next couple of years will hopefully provide some nice as yet unrecognised upside for the group as as a whole.

Wow - many thanks hastings, that video will surely bring in terrific interest for Proreveal from the USA. What a great speaker too, most entertaining and informative.

Here's a clean link:

Another spot which I found very interesting, so hopefully others will too.

This is from just last month where there is a clear mention on the new DOH guidance along with some compelling reasons for adopting the ProReveal tech.

The man speaking is Dr David Perrett who was a key player in the development team which SDI's arm worked with on the development and who remains of some industry importance.

If you can get past the early history lesson in the video, I feel its a great intro to the background, tech and more importantly the reasons for any Hospital to take it up, which may at last be sooner rather than later on the back of that latest DOH guidance.

For the record and as we know, the system was developed jointly and the patent is owned by SDI and the Queen Mary Hospital, although SDI has the rest, which includes the consumables as in the spray which from the video it says lasts up to six months.
That surely means if ProReveal gets any momentum behind it in the future there should be a nice nice recurring element of revenue.

Obviously blue sky as yet as we know, but then it isn't factored in on any forecasts so dreaming doesn't do any harm.

Interesting times, with unusual liquidity here at present after a 54k buy this morning.

There's 110,000 shares available to buy online, whilst you can sell 150,000 at 12.08p. So there's good demand out there, whilst at the same time this is one of the few times buyers will easily be able to get hold of a decent amount of stock given the usual 5k-20k online limits to availability.

Nice 50k buy just now at 13.19p. Looks like mudbath has provided the stock supply here recently - hopefully it's upwards and onwards from here, as imho there's a long way to go.

Online there are sizeable buyers out there. You can sell 130,000 at a good premium at 11.87p, but you can only buy a maximum 50,000 at 13.4p.

I am now out rivaldo, having sold my last 75k @ 12.65 on Friday;not because I am no longer a bull, but because with these illiquid stocks one has to seize the chance to trade in size when presented.
Good luck to term SDI investors.

A net 142k shares bought today, including a 50k and a 70k - normally that would be enough to send the share price up a penny or two! Hopefully the seller that's been out there a while is nearly out of stock.

FYI here's some extracts from Finncap's recent post-results note.

This is based on historic 1.7p EPS and 1.8p EPS this year, plus £1.4m net cash rising to £2.5m at April'17:

Extracts:

"The company is pursuing a buy and build model within the scientific instrument and technology space, designing, manufacturing and selling products to the life science, healthcare consumer and astronomy segments of the market, built around its digital imaging technology. Full year results showed encouraging progress; underlying growth in its core business supplemented by a half year’s contribution from Sentek. We are introducing 2018 forecasts as well as making minor changes to our 2017 forecasts. Our target price of 19p represents a 65% upside to the current level, at which point the stock would trade on a FY 2017 P/E of 11x and EV/EBITDA of 5x, moving more into line with its larger and more established peer group."

" Outlook.

A full year's contribution from the Sentek acquisition will drive the FY 2017 financial performance. Beyond this we expect the company to make additional acquisitions which are expected to positively impact the financial outlook. The recent guideline changes published by the Department of Health, pertaining to the decontamination of surgical instruments has positive long term implications for ProReveal but it is too early to include meaningful contributions into both 2017 and 2018.

 Valuation.

The stock is currently trading on a FY 2017 P/E of 6.5x falling to 6.0x and an EV/EBITDA of 3.0x dropping to 2.8x, respectively. We are introducing a target price of 19p which is based on comparative multiple analysis. At 19p the share would trade on a FY 2017 EV/EBITDA of 5x and P/E of 11x, moving more closely into line with its peer group."

since the evolution of ProReveal was born out of a large grant from the Dept. of Health for the R&D of what ultimately became the ProReveal system and after the recent further guidance from the dept. with regard to decontamination of surgical instruments I'd expect our system to become the bench mark for this application within the UK

Cheers, Mudbath & rivaldo. My feelings are very much the same as your own and I'm happy to sit and let this one unfold further.I guess there is still a degree of caution given the past lack of tangible progress. However, since the changes implemented two years back the resulting cost savings and a more driven culture the picture has improved greatly. The subsequent Sentek buy looks as good as forecast and another in a similar vein being bolted on plus the ongoing progress from Atik should further reinforce the story.

Great article hastings, many thanks.

Big trades going through yesterday by SDI's standards, with large buys at near the full offer price and sells achieving a good premium to the bid at above 12p.

I doubt it will take much more buying to achieve decent upside from here short-term, though I intend to hold for some time to come given the cheapness of the stock and the ambition of the management - as evidenced by the hugely impressive shareholder list for such a microcap.

Thanks hastings.
After years of feeling somewhat jaundiced over SDI's lack of progress, there does now seem to be a detectable positive step change pervading the whole company.
I hope this translates into further revenue and profits growth in future trading periods.
Nick2008 always felt that SDI could become another Judges Scientific.
Should the North American market for SDI products continue to grow,we might even catch the eye of a predator.
I have taken the opportunity of adding a live link to your excellent Cambridge News article.
