26/4/2013 07:39 | Santander UK Quarterly:- SME lending continues to rise, up 15% year on year "I am pleased to announce a profit before tax from continuing operations of £282 million for Q1'13. This was supported by higher net interest income and resilient credit quality. Our Core Tier 1 capital ratio of 12.5% and the loan to deposit ratio of 126% both improved, further reinforcing the strength of our balance sheet. We made good progress in building stronger customer relationships, with some 1.7 million customers in our 1HTMLPIPESYMBOL2ted further in the development of our corporate banking capabilities. We have also invested in operational capabilities, which contributed to a much improved service for our customers. Looking forward, I expect greater stability in our operating environment, in the context of a UK economy which remains subdued. We will continue our support of UK individuals, families and businesses and to act as a strong competitor on the high street." Ana Botín, Chief Executive Officer | cwa1
17/3/2013 21:37 | Positive mention of Santander in the Economist. | melton john
14/3/2013 19:35 | Just found this thread, I'm into the parent company BNC for excellent yield approx 8%, more if you go for the scrip. Some research on there also listed on NYSE as SAN. Do some homework 50% of profits from Latin America, 25% from US and UK, only 25% from greater Europe and Spain. Ample profits to cover bad debts with provisions already made. No stamp duty when trading plus exposure to foreign currency gains. | melton john
06/3/2013 13:18 | Yes the header needs correcting; 6/4 and 6/10 are the interest payment dates, not the xd date! | jaf111
06/3/2013 12:56 | That would make sense - shouldn't have been lazy and believed the header here! Thanks. | folderboy
06/3/2013 12:44 | I believe it has gone xd.. | jaf111
06/3/2013 12:41 | Any particular reason for the fall in share price today? | folderboy
26/10/2012 14:16 | The FSA recently ruled that the parent company cannot take funds from what is a a UK plc which beggars the question why the spanish want to own it- presumably its an asset that could be sold. I am sorry I have no link but remember this clearly -I bought some SANB a it cheaper then now. What happens in the Spanish parent company does not affect this except if shortof money could try to sell off to likes of Branson. Admittedly if Baco San needed to provide capital divi at risk -presumaly they could take that fresh capital out again .NWBD safer with the default scrip divi 4/3 but the share price might drop if it happened ! | 4spiel
26/10/2012 13:33 | Might help some of the £>>?/$$ apparent here. Nothing is without risk. | blueliner

25/10/2012 19:05 | To me after write offs, profits down 90% | montyhedge
25/10/2012 19:00 | Some confusion above: "§ Profit before tax of £1,098m, ahead 4%" "Spanish bank Santander has said its quarterly profits fell by more than 90% after taking provisions for bad property loans in its local market" Which is true or by some quirk can both be true? | deadly |
