You Telecom ties up with Motorola and Sandvine
18 April 2007

Citigroup-owned You Telecom India Private Limited, formerly Iqara Broadband, today announced having entered into a technology deployment agreement with global wireless communications major Motorola, Inc and US-based Sandvine Incorporated, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sandvine Corporation.

You Telecom, an ISO 9000:2001 accredited broadband Service Provider, will deploy intelligent broadband solutions from Motorola and Sandvine.

Sandvine's technology will give You Telecom visibility into its network traffic in order to offer high-quality Internet services to over 150,000 subscribers. Motorola, a long-term technology provider to You Telecom, will complement Sandvine's efforts by offering sales and first-level support.

E V S Chakravarthy, CEO, YOU Telecom, said that You Telecom will deploy Sandvine's latest PTS 14000 platform network-wide, across 10 cities in India. This solution will provide You Telecom the visibility and tools needed to meet the needs of today's growing, dynamic broadband networks and sophisticated broadband users across the country.

"The growing appetite for broadband in India puts pressure on service providers to offer innovative IP multimedia applications to a rapidly growing customer base," Kevin Keefe, vice president, Voice & Data Solutions, Motorola, Inc, said. "In addition to providing cable modems to You Telecom and aiding extensively in its HFC expansion, Motorola is happy to be working with Sandvine to further the telecom company's broadband initiatives with support for improved content and application delivery," said.

Some of the features of Sandvine's PTS technology platform are:

It is the industry's first 10-Gig platform, helping enable per-subscriber DPI-based policy solutions to solve both business and technology challenges in the world's largest broadband networks that are migrating to10-Gig connectivity.
It will monitor subscriber usage traffic
Enables implementation of intelligent broadband solutions such as customized broadband plans for subscribers
Provides regular reports
Helps roll out revenue-generating services that help improve subscribers' online experience

Canaccord Adams

LONDON, April 4 (newratings.com) - Analysts at Canaccord Adams reiterate their "buy" rating on Sandvine Corporation (ticker: SAND). The target price is set to C$4.50.

In a research note dated April 2 and published yesterday, the analysts mention that Allot Communications has reduced its revenue guidance for F1Q07 and FY07 from $9.6 million to $8.2-$8.3 million and from $43-$47 million to $40 million, respectively. Allot Communications witnessed weakness mainly in the enterprise market, to which Sandvine does not have exposure, the analysts say. Allot Communications appears to be losing its Tier 1 space market share to Sandvine, which is also likely to be seizing market share in the Tier 2 carrier category, Canaccord Adams adds.

OK - one of the most useful things I learned at a seminar was at a - pause for laughter - Win investing freebie. Quite simply, the speaker mentioned in passing that you do not want to be holding a stock when the standard RSI is below 50. Can't tell you how useful that has been. Mind you - one needs to be careful with RSI as it can give false signals on big moves but by and large this 'tip' is one of the more useful I have picked up along the way.

Seeing as I have bought shares today. I tend to agree with you HamsterWheel and believe me I like these sort of shares i.e.UA Group, UK Land, John Swan, Latham, Inveresk etc. I can even go back to Jacksons Bourne End,Thorneycrofts and Clarnico Mints.

smarm - i use telechart chart package. i look at strongest 1000 shares over past 6 months. i then put them in power ratings portfolio. its from tradin mkts.com. it determines strongest and weakest shares. i then look at strongest candidates for longs. i look at chart patterns. once got candidates put buy stops in with interactive brokers. once bought or shorted put profit stops and stoploss orders in. it a lot more stressfree coz stops are auto so dont micromanage. spreads are minimal, and commisions dirt cheap

Port - I have shares, CFD's and spreadbets on one spreadsheet. Let's say you buy £10pp on a £1 share. That's 1k worth of stock. You zero the commission/stamp duty field in your spreadsheet and put in the bid-offer as per your quote on spreadbetting company. Now let's say the stock has gone up 6 and you sell. You have made £20 (6 points less, say, 4 on spread = 2 points = £20). You now have £1020 in your trading account and have a choice - you can either accept that as 2% on the trade or you can adjust the profit column to reflect the profit made on the deposit.
