My teen is applying for a part time job. Some times the shifts start at 05.30 in the morning.

My teen is the last to be interviewed, all the others who've applied have been interviewed and they've all refused the job saying they are not willing to start so early in the morning.

The only moron is you. If these youngsters wont work unless they receive £20/£25 then they are idle and bring many of the the ills they face upon themselves

What a moronic statement. The youth of today have never had such a grey outlook.

Even with a personal tax allowance, if working full time after leaving college will pay tax on at least half their earnings.

The problem to day is mobile phones and the likes of Tic-Tok. Tic-Tok spends $100 of millions making the site addictive and to get teens off the site they want at least £20 per hour in their pocket after any tax or National insurance is paid.

At my local Tesco today, the majority of staff were of very very low intelligence and simple minded who seem happy at performing the menial and least demanding work that most supermarket jobs are.

This is a very big problem today, Computer technology and AI is making jobs that used to be skilled and therefore needed to have some intelligence to do are now unskilled for the simple minded.

Last 3 times to my local Sainsbury's at least 1 of the 3 self-service check-outs were closed due to lack of staff.

3 out of my last 4 visits to my local Tesco at least 1 of the 3 self-service check-outs were closed due to lack of staff. This morning at my local Tesco only 2 staff were on duty at the self-service check-outs when there are supposed to be 6, 2 for each of the 3 areas.

All the shops in my local high street are screaming out for staff. Even my local Iceland have only 1 till operating over the past year due to lack of staff.

What's going on?

My teen who is at college says even at £12.15 per hour, after tax and National Insurance leaves circa £8 to £9 per hour and its not worth working for such a little amount. While living at home with mum and dad only worth working if paid at least £20 per hour or if left home and paying for self £25 per hour. I've chatted with some of my teens class mates they all say the same thing, minimum of £20 per hour.

They then go on to say when they've left college in a couple of years if still living at home with mum and dad will only work for a minimum of £25 per hour and if left home £30 per hour.

Therefore to attract staff the likes of Sainsbury's and Tesco will need to increase shop floor pay by at least 50% and in a couple of years will need to pay 75% to 100% more then the supermarkets are currently paying today as many of the young today will not work for any less.

Just one other thing I don't understand, the spot price of gas is the lowest its been in nominal terms for 20 years and in real terms 25 years, equivalent of less then $10 per barrel of oil and yet in the UK customers are still paying a record amount per unit for their gas or electricity which comes from power stations powered by gas - WHY???

Sainsbury's to cut 1,500 jobs in cost-cutting plan

The chain announced a strategy earlier this month that aimed to save cash from under-performing areas to invest in driving growth.

I'm guessing the new more efficent way of baking bread in store actually means NOT baking it in store

Rather warming up already half baked bread that has been delivered to the store.

I couldn't believe what a security guard at my local Sainsbury's said to me this morning.

There are gangs coming in to the store stealing £1000's of worth of goods at a time, often booze, the high end booze which they can then sell on. Even though the local store has given the local police photo's of these individuals and their names the police are doing nothing, absolutely zero about it.

It's not the single one off shop lifter, it's gangs of 5, 10, 15, 20 people at a time going in to do a massive stealing operation, stealing several thousands of pounds worth at a time.

I was also chatting with the manager of my local Pound stretcher store and she said she sees at least 5 instances of shoplifting everyday in her store and on most days there are now 20+ instances of shop lifting in her small store and there is nothing she can do about it and nothing the police will do about it.

Sales growth has been running at less than inflation, therefore Sainsbury's, Tesco, Asda and Morrison have all been selling less stuff.

I'm aure alot of this 'sales growth' for any retailer is just price rises. I doubt anyone actually sold more stuff over the last two years, unless they took some market share from somewhere?

My olive oil has nearly doubled in price over the last two years. My frozen chips are up around 70%. My cakes are up 40%.

I'm sure I read somewhere that LIDL are struggling with 'debt' from higher interest rates?

Inflation is good for Gov plc, more Vat revenue, more fiscal drag but will likely struggle to borrow much more and hence QE came in during Covid debacle, and is likely on QE standby for a potential serious gilts sell off, which will lead to more inflation.

Hey Sainsbury's

Why not buy Currys ?

You can stick a small currys in the corner of every supermarket

Then close all of the Currys stores, and kill that brand off good and proper
