Sanford DeLand also owns a stake in RWS, Eric Burns of Sanford DeLand comments

Interim results published earlier this month

“We are naturally wary of large acquisitions but RWS is a company with a track record of pulling them off,” Burns said. “Pleasingly, its latest purchase also seems to be bang on track, with, if anything, more synergies than originally identified.”

He said a bigger surprise had been the decision of the chief executive, Richard Thompson, .... “This always raises questions so soon after a major deal but it was seemingly driven by issues of remuneration rather than strategy,” Burns said.

He said the long-term appeal of the business, its position in sectors such as technology and life sciences, remained. “These areas are fast growing, partly thanks to regulatory demands. We can make an analogy with the Gold Rush, where the providers of the picks and shovels” – in this case the translators of patents as opposed to the businesses behind the innovations themselves – “were the ones to back.”

From the Telegraph/Questor
Institutional investor quote

“He said a bigger surprise had been the decision of the chief executive, Richard Thompson, who had been with the company since 2012, to step down to pursue other interests. “This always raises questions so soon after a major deal but it was seemingly driven by issues of remuneration rather than strategy,” Burns said.

Good to see the new CEO taking advantage of the price dip to pick up 40,000 shares.

Focus last few years has been largely on eliminating duplicated and other costs within acquired businesses and outgoing CEO very comfortable and competent in this arena. After large acquisition of SDL, focus may well switch to growing the top line across all areas of the business and new CEO looks to have the right pedigree to achieve this. As a long term holder since soon after listing, I have been rewarded handsomely for trusting Andrew Brodes judgement and see no reason to change that view, but always dyor.

If they generate eps of 24.1 for 2021 then a share price of 725 is conservative.

Looks to me like it's good value here and even better value if it drops further.

Thanks brain....volume has been above average I guess but no market panic IMO
Berenberg reiterates buy with a target price of 810p. Current price 575p...I wish I could buy more. I suspect market forecasts are too low but given the strong cashflow I think this is far more than just a PER stock. After all RWS has fantastic proprietary technology post SDL acquisition...GLA

I would be hugely grateful if anyone has any forecasts etc....H1 results to me were perfectly good, surely RWS is nicely geared to the strong recovery taking place in US and elsewhere. OK the weaker dollar is negative and the change in CEO was a surprise and the real merger benefits won't come through until the next financial year. But there is no change to the fundamental story. I won't be selling but the market reaction has surprised me. GLA

Looks like a typical post results sag driven by short term trading, presenting an excellent buying opportunity

Long term shareholders have a lot to thank Richard Thompson for, but with the really hard yards of the SDL acquisition perhaps now out of the way it is perhaps a good time for a change. Original RWS business clearly trading very well and jump in interim dividend a sign of confidence. Always dyor.

Also agreed. I assume the headhunters did a good job - with millions in the bank they can afford it. I also assume the main investors would have needed to give a thumbs up before the choice.

Change of CEO is probable cause for price dip.
IMHO it can take from 6 weeks to 6 months for the new CEO to display his ability.
