- Language and intellectual property support services provider RWS Holdings booked a 51% rise in first-half profit, driven by higher demand, favorable exchange rates and cost control.

Pre-tax profit for the six months through March rose to £27.6m, up from £18.3m on-year.

Revenue rose 23% to £172.3m and adjusted profit rose 24% to £35.6m.

RWS declared an interim dividend of 1.75p per share, up 17% on-year.

The company said its trading performance since the period end had been in line with market expectations, which were upgraded during a trading update in April.

'RWS has delivered a strong first half with record revenues and profits, driven by our three largest divisions,' chairman Andrew Brode said.

'We are particularly pleased with the improved performance at RWS Moravia, which has achieved both healthy top- line growth and strong margins through focused operational management.'

'Following a strong first half and encouraging performances at the start of the second half, we are confident of achieving another record year.'

no triumphalism either. happy to downplay things and let the results speak for themselves.

looking at further acquisitions as well.

From today's AGM statement:

'We have had an excellent start to the financial year, considerably ahead of the previous year, with strong underlying trading in the first quarter combined with the benefit of currency movements. While it remains early in the year, this underpins our confidence in delivering a performance for FY 2019 which is at least in line with market expectations.'

good acquisition today and fits well with the company's growth plan:

'The acquisition will be highly complementary to RWS's existing Language Solutions business and will strengthen its specialist legal and financial translation offering. In particular, the acquisition will enhance RWS Language Solutions presence in its key growth areas of North America and Germany, significantly enhancing its legal client base.'
