I seem to have made another bad call on this one. What you say about patience is so true. Bought back in when the big buys started going through at 137, but price still faltering.

Alcornwall Sure is! I guess you must be right about the statement on margins but it seems they are able to produce the results even so.I am a long term though small holder in this group and think it is a well organised specialist in its field and knows where its going so on seeing the drop this morning I saw it as a buying opportunity rather than a set back and I set a buy order at 139. Unfortunately I was too keen and cancelled it when I saw some buys go through at 145 and re-ordered at 140. I should have been patient as now at 135.5 and rising. I think the MMs hold on to their price even though they are sitting on stock but then release it slowly gradually dropping the price to mop up the maximum number of buyers; the lesson is not to be too hasty. However time will tell all, and I am confident for the future. At the moment it seems that almost all stocks are getting hammered after results. Perhaps its the time of year.

It would be nice to get some more in depth analysis on this notice board from some of the more knowledgeable BBers that make magical calculations for future PEGs etc....anyone out there

Pugugly, will be interested to see your findings, will check figures myself when I have a minute. My first reaction is that this is oversold, however this may also not be the case.

Looks as though the market has downgraded potential growth rate - Note on relativley high p/e and low yield (Still ahve to run exact calculations)

the signs were there yesterday - all sells. Wish i'd sold then - isn't hindsight a wonderful thing. I guess the fall may be attributable to the statement in the report about increased costs in 1st half of year impacting on margins.
I sold out at 144 and have taken a loss. But will think about getting back in at these levels.

Can anyone please explain the severe drop today after what I see as excellent results now 12.6% down with the following headline results

RPS Group plc, Europe's leading environmental consultancy, today announces
record results for the year ended 31 December 2003, with earnings per share
(before goodwill amortisation) increased 20.6% over last year.

• Profit (before taxation and goodwill amortisation) increased by 18.5%
to £21.1 million (2002: £17.8 million)

• Earnings per share (before goodwill amortisation) increased by 20.6%
to 8.62 pence (2002: 7.15 pence)

• Operating cash flow at £20.6 million was 101% of operating profit
(before goodwill amortisation) (2002: 90%)

• Year end cash balances of £21.7 million (2002: £23.0 million); funding
available to continue acquisition strategy

• Recommended final dividend 0.94 pence per share: full year dividend
increased 15.2 % to 1.82 pence (2002: 1.58 pence)

• High operating margin before goodwill amortisation (16.4 %) sustained
(2002: 16.1%)

• Creation of new Energy Services Division and acquisition of
Troy-Ikoda Ltd, a specialist geosciences and engineering business.

• Consolidation of market leading position in Ireland.

Brook Land, Chairman, said:

' These are another good set of results. We are continuing to follow the
strategy which has delivered excellent growth over the last decade and believe
that RPS can continue to capitalise on its position as Europe's leading
environmental consultancy.'

Sold out to work on other investments a couple of weeks ago. Took minor hit but already recovered. May get back in but need to appreciate capital and hence getting it to work harder elsewhere for the time being. If possible will try and get in before results.

looks a decent buy at these levels

on a weekly chart, we have a 50 MA(140p) about to cross the 200 MA (150p) and the price is on the cusp.
So, next move is the crucial one, and determines my decision to hold or sell

Wonder if Hearne, Dowan and Troup, chief officers of the company, knew about Fidelity selling off their 8.74% prior to selling off massive amounts of stock.
Shareholders should call them to account over this issue.

Selected on Radio 2's Jeremy Vine's programme as one of five "ethical" shareholdings in a 'game' of ethical vs non-ethical investments. Might create a little more interest over time - but then again, probably won't.
