Bertrand Ottoman12 MIN AGOMessage ActionsThey want everyone to shift to battery electric vehicles and get rid of gas boilers. When the power cuts start, and everyone finds themselves without transport, heating, lighting, internet connection or entertainment (laptop, TV, music), the government of the day is going to find itself in big trouble. Not that changing to another party would make any difference. They all suffer from the same nonsense dogma.REPLY 4FLAGGHGeorge Herraghty16 MIN AGOMessage ActionsYesterday's Energy Source?Humankind has never been at risk of running out of energy. There has always been enough fossil fuels to power human civilization for hundreds and perhaps thousands of years, and nuclear energy is effectively infinite.Details here ---https://www.forbes.com/sites/michaelshellenberger/2020/04/21/new-michael-moore-backed-documentary-on-youtube-reveals-massive-ecological-impacts-of-renewables/?sh=3ddbb3876c96REPLY 3.... I want a return to 38p a quarter. I'll be dead by the time it gets there if they only increase by circa 4% a year though. If the poo is still around these levels (constantly) in a few more years then I expect the div to be knocking on the old levels. No excuses. After all, the current div just wont cut it if the share price is north of 20 quid.

Finally Shell are tipping into respectable share price range making the divi look weaker by the day ! I fully understand we don’t go back to the dizzy 38p per quarter as in past but we should be pushing 25p + during this year. This still remains a cyclic share and risk vs reward need divi range around 5% at least !!

It's one of those questions - so beloved of British newspapers - to which the answer would so obviously seem to be "no" that you might wonder why it's being asked in the first place, other than as a form of clickbait.Even adjusting for inflation, it's never been at that level before, and in any case, as yesterday's energy source - condemned by the demands of climate change to terminal decline - isn't it meant to be all over for fossil fuels?Yet in Europe and parts of Asia at least, we have already seen natural gas prices spike up to the oil price equivalent of $350 a barrel, so it is not altogether impossible that the black stuff might follow suit.If it does, it's going to shake the global economy to its core, in much the same way as the oil price shocks of the 1970s. Analysis by Doomberg, a US-based newsletter published on Substack, makes a plausible case for it..... The Perfect storm:-

-OPEC restraining supplies
-Predictions abound of likely $100 oil - if not too conservative
-Increasing Political tensions in East Europe and Middle East
-Gas supplies to Europe down 25%
-Soaring shipping costs
-Wind farm generation down due to unusual wind patterns.
-Closures of ageing nuclear plants - with new units not yet commissioned
-Closures of coal plant
-Global economies going into overdrive after lengthy lockdown with increasing demand for energy

This combination of reduced supply/soaring costs/increasing demand will be the Perfect Storm to further rocket prices of oil and gas supplies.

Shell is in a very strong position to be an outright beneficiary as prices rise.

This share has a lot further to run.

Oil has extended gains to hit the highest level in seven years as omicron fears eased and geopolitical tensions returned in the Middle East.Brent crude climbed past $87 a barrel for the first time since 2014, while West Texas Intermediate also rose above $85 for the first time since October.Prices have climbed since the start of the year as demand remained high despite the impact of the omicron variant.Adding to the pressure, Yemen's Houthi fighters claimed to have launched a drone strike on the United Arab Emirates – the third biggest Opec producer – that caused an explosion and fire on the outskirts of the capital Abu Dhabi.....
