29/10/2021 09:58 | AJ Bell: Shell may have to do the splits: A third-quarter profit miss has left Royal Dutch Shell (RDSA) shareholders frustrated but the oil major has a bigger problem to contend with in activist investor Third Point, AJ Bell analyst Russ Mould said. The energy giant reported profits of $4.1bn for the three months to September, below an expected $5.4bn despite surging crude prices. However, the bigger story is Third Point taking a $500m stake in the company and calling for it to be split into two businesses: the legacy business on one side and renewables on the other. Mould said splitting out the renewables division has ‘long been seen as a logical next step for the business but no one has really called for the company to proceed until now’. ‘That’s because there’s an argument to say its renewables operations are not yet large scale and the cashflow from the oil and gas operations is required to fund investment into areas like wind power,’ he said. ‘One would have thought Shell will fight any opposition now to do the splits, but it is a decision that may have to be made at some point in the future. | loganair

29/10/2021 09:55 | Climate runs in cycles. Over the past 2,000 years, for 700 years of this it has been warmer then it is today. 1,100 years ago the Vikings made it to New Foundland because it was 2C to 2 1/2 warmer then it is today and the Artic ice sheet was some 500 miles further North then it is today. Over the past 100 million years CO2 has been much higher then it is today the temperature was 15C colder then today and conversely when CO2 was much lower then it is today the temperature was 6C warmer then it is today. | loganair
29/10/2021 09:47 | I love the illogicality of some people who think that anyone who doesn't agree with netzero/green agenda wants to "ruin the planet"! Completely brainwashed logic. | spawny100

29/10/2021 09:20 | final question at the analyst presentation was about the "cash return" and that was the phrase that the CFO herself used, though she also stated that they were looking at a number of methods to return the money. There is no timetable only that they will do it as soon as possible after the deal completes. Watch this space I figure. Q4 results in early February will doubtless provide the full details... | partenope

28/10/2021 22:16 | Not in the psychological/disinf I believe Trump had the EPA take it off the list of 'scary' 'environmental poisons' or whatever the Obama administration decided to call it to make CO2 sound like hydrogen cyanide or similar. It's an asphyxiant and yes, a greenhouse gas. Terminology matters. Still waiting for muh climate catastrophe. Never gonna happen though, it's all just repitition, propaganda and scaremongering. Goebbels called it The Big Lie. Shouldn't you be holding up traffic at a set of lights somewhere inside the M25? | cassini

28/10/2021 21:00 | commentary by Jamie Ashcroft "In September, Shell announced the US$9.5bn divestment of its assets and pledged to pay-out some US$7bn to shareholders via a special dividend." so respecting my last post - it is not clear even to media watchers how this money will be returned! I also listened to the Q3 media conference call (not analaysts, but journalists, mainly from UK and Holland) - no question about this matter! there's also an analyst presentation here but I haven't the willpower to sit through another hour of q&a!! | partenope

28/10/2021 18:13 | Disappointing finish, but at least those crazy buybacks are still operating at crazy low prices. With the cash flow to continue into 2022, just imagine what the balance sheet could look like this time next year ? Oil demand will remain high for many years so there is great opportunity for RdS to diverse and maintain big energy profile. Share buy backs is done by every big company these days as they look to improve balance sheet and EPS . Just hoping for something more stellar in the next Q update ! | tornado12
28/10/2021 17:42 | The breath coming out of our lungs as we exhale is 40,000ppm CO2 so lets over this lie that CO2 is an environmental poison. The fact is, if it weren't dinned mercilessly into my head by David Bloody Attenborough every time I turn on the TV that we're facing a 'climate emergency' I wouldn't have any clues that we're in one. The sky isn't on fire, I'm still waiting for that Mediterranean pavement cafe climate I was promised and sea level appears unchanged to me over my lifetime, which isn't short. My outdoor Busy Lizzie in a pot just got wilted by the cold and it's only October... I see that NOAA, the US meteorological agency, just changed the bar chart in their website to show tornados in the USA increasing over time. For years before now their tornado bar chart showed no trend/slight decline over time. Now they've doctored it. The original is still available on the Wayback Machine. Desperadoes or what? Some emergency... | cassini
