Richland moves beyond Tanzanite
By Mark Robinson, 26 September 2011

Half-year results from Richland Resources, which changed its name from Tanzanite One in August, demonstrated that the group's restructuring efforts are delivering benefits.

As part of that restructuring, Richland is expanding the range of gemstones that it mines to include Australian sapphires - but sales right now are still predicated on the market for tanzanite, a blue-purple gemstone found in the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro. The tanzanite market benefited from a general price upsurge for coloured gemstones in the period, which also helped drive retail sales at the company's Tanzanite Experience visitor centre in Tanzania by around a fifth.

On a comparable basis, Richland boosted its processed tonnage by 10 per cent which, in turn, yielded 1.25m carats - that's up 19 per cent on the first half of 2010. The company also increased its recovery rate by 9 per cent to 60 carats per tonne, while keeping unit costs in check, despite struggling with fast-rising raw material prices. This positive combination allowed Richland to turn in a 35 per cent increase in gross profits in the year to end-June to $7.59m (£4.9m).

IC VIEW:

The group is successfully keeping a lid on costs, while moving to diversify the group's revenue streams. Future growth could be facilitated through a proposed expansion into the Indian market, too. Indeed, broker XCAP Securities calculates the group's net present value at $92m, which represents 50p a share - well above the current share price. Patience might be needed, but the shares are a long-term buy.

Tanzanite Sales Strong Despite Market Turmoil
By Admin10. August 2011 00:24

Watching the news and reading the papers has become a depressing experience this past few months as we bear witness to a litany of pressures on the financial system. Gold has hit a record high of $1700 per ounce and the Swiss Franc has been strengthening rapidly as people rush for perceived safe havens. It is perhaps as a result of this that Tanzanite sales have continued to rise through this period – it is increasingly being viewed as a "safe haven" tangible asset.

TanzaniteOne, the largest miner of the beautiful blue gemstone has just published very strong second quarter results showing a marked increase in both production and sales. This is the second quarter in a row showing strong growth. The first quarter of 2011 reported production of 609,737 carats of tanzanite, representing a year on year increase of 8 percent. Sales in contrast, rose 48 percent. In the second quarter, they reported a further 57 percent increase in sales on quarter 1.

This increase may also have something to do with China's growing love affair with the stone. In the past two years, we have noticed a marked increase in the number of Chinese buyers in the local market. This could prove good news for investors in Tanzanite, holding fine pieces. An ever-growing market in the East will only serve to bolster already high demand in the West, which should continue to have a strong impact on value.

I believe Tanzanite was first discovered after blue stones were found on the ground after a bush fire, I suppose they could be described as natural stones.

Maybe they should market 'bush fired Tanzanite'

Tanzanite Wedding Ring, Questions About Untreated Tanzanite Gems

There is no doubt that the interest and demand for tanzanite wedding rings has shown a sharp increase. When analyzing the reasons for this increase, some credit needs to be given to Kaisilver, the world's leading online custom made jewellery provider. We have always worked hard to educate and inform jewelry and gem lovers about unique gem features and facts, tanzanite ofcourse has it's own bag of them. Tanzanite is rarer than a diamond, it is one of the few gems to be found in just one nation (Tanzania). The color and lustre of tanzanite is unmatched by any other gem stone. A good quality tanzanite rough, that is oriented in the right direction and expertly cut, has a hypnotic appearance that can leave the viewer in a trance.

What we want to talk about here relates to the queries about, using an untreated tanzanite gem stone for a gold or silver tanzanite wedding ring. The fact is that, more than 98% of the tanzanite gems that find their way into the gems and jewelry markets, are heat treated. This process increases the clarity and enhances the color of the stone. You will be surprised to know that more than 98% of the rough tanzanite found is of a dark greenish-brown color. It is the heating of tanzanite rough that, gives the lovely blue or violet blue color tone to the stone.

The above image shows you what rough tanzanite looks like. The bluish gem shown on the right hand side, is the same rough tanzanite after it has been heat treated. So what about getting a untreated (unheated) tanzanite gem for your gold or 925 silver wedding ring. There are two issues here the first relates to, what type of rough tanzanite you are looking for. Would you be happy with the tanzanite color that you see above (brownish green). If this is yes, then getting an untreated gem for your tanzanite gem stone wedding ring is fairly easy. This is true especially because of Kaisilver as, we procure all tanzanite rough from the miners in Tanzania and do the custom cutting inhouse.

What is tough is to get an untreated tanzanite gem, that looks similar to many of the heated tanzanite stones that you might have come across. These gems are rare and carry premium price tags, but we can procure such a gem (if you need it) for your wedding tanzanite ring. The important thing to ensure when you buy and pay for an untreated tanzanite gem is that, the gem is really not treated. You can request for a certificate from a reputed gem testing laboratory, it might cost a bit more to get a certified gem but, it is surely worth the effort and money. If are looking for a 14k or 18k tanzanite wedding ring or even for a 925 silver tanzanite ring, check out the detailed report at and email our support experts at sales@kaisilver.com if you need any information or guidance related to gems and jewelry.

I am impressed by young Bernard Oliver. Got this company back into growth and profitability. Now looking to judiciously expand. Just hope the equity issuance is kept to a minimum especially right now as I think the paper is way cheap.
