Alex - let me give you an example of accounting. We have ten fingers ah, unless we come from Norfolk? So lets count them.

Starting from the right hand - the thumb is number 10, your tenth digit.. we next have the index number 9.. then comes the middle finger number 8.. the ring finger number 7 and last but not least the pinky number 6.........now add them to the 5 you have on your left hand and bingo.......11.

You have just become an accountant my friend!

My take on this HH is that many retail investors like yourself expect a swift resumption to real profitability (i.e. accounting profit in the P&L, not adj EBITDA). I don't expect that until 2018 ... moving to cash generating and narrow accounting loss would do me fine for 2017. The shift in business models is so radical that R1 almost bears no relation to Blinkx ... it's like a new business with cash to tide it over until it becomes self sufficient. Another possibility is that it gets acquired as part of industry consolidation.

alex, clarity is important when it comes to the city..
the right sort of PR is what investors need, promoting themselves...

Businesses use PR to promote themselves, showing how good they are etc, nothing wrong with that...

they then need to backup the PR with the money...

The share price will then take care of itself...

Next give cautious and balanced updates. What did $40m cost saving mean? At face value it means costs will be $40m lower ... and that's how many interpreted the statement.

Alex - the 15 September 2016 NXT disclaimer at the bottom of the page:

"Certain statements which appear in a number of places throughout this Interim Management Report may constitute "forward looking statements" which are all matters that are not historical facts, including anticipated financial and operational performance, business prospects and similar matters. These forward looking statements are identifiable by words such as "aim", "anticipate", "believe", "budget", "estimate", "expect", "forecast", "intend", "plan", "project" and similar expressions. These forward looking statements reflect NEXT's current expectations concerning future events and actual results may differ materially from current expectations or historical results. Any such forward looking statements are subject to risks and uncertainties, including but not limited to those matters."

Nearer the top:

"OUTLOOK

Recent Trade - a July 'bounce'?

There has been some talk of a general retail bounce in July and whilst NEXT did enjoy very strong sales in July, this was driven by a much larger end-of-season Sale. NEXT's stock for the end-of-season Sale was up 30% on last year which increased both footfall and sales."

I have no problem - you selected, I simply showed you the other side...Next use spin like all business!

My problem with the $40m cost saving is that some investors were convinced that this meant "real profitability" was assured in the next period ... I could trawl the comments and find a few but the point is that the cost element of the P&L was not going to be $40m lower than the previous one ... so to my point their language was misleading. Not all companies do this ... Next have a reputation for honest updates. I prefer their approach. As for bans, I don't believe in them ... what's the point in having a bullish or bearish thread? Better to have a bit of both sides.

Disappointing week, given market reaction to the H1 TU- and Barky's predictably appalling behaviour throughout.

One month to regroup, and impress or regress, Bwian.

Just a thought. If Core is now ramping and is 80% of revenue, along with the $40m in savings, could Core be now profitable? The maths does not quite add up... Any views?
