#Action - 4200 pence summer 2024 came and went twice, I missed both unfortunately, it was not a good time to liquidate anything in the ISA to fund a RKT position..

ULVR at 4400 looked value so I had some more of those, and will need to wait util May to add here but will most likely be adding a few MoM for the rest of 2025 and not look for a bottom to open the door..

What do we know

Trump doesn't drink (by all accounts)
doesn't smoke (tobacco)
But he is well known for his other interests

So my question is this .

Why are the share prices of Pharmaceutical and Personal Products companies being hit so badly as well.

Explanations anyone ?

@riskvsreward

They may be justified IF the future brings a bigger dividend and/or a share price increase results.

However the future, as we know, is uncertain so those FUTURE benefits are only potential gains.

The company should not call them returns to shareholders now.

Read the small print. Buy back shares are held in treasury, not cancelled. Hence no benefit to investors. Shows lack of ambition for acquisitions etc.Otherwise should hold on to any spare cash to pay any future litigation damages.

Why not? The equity base is reduced by the amount of buybacks. With about over 3% buybacks, eps will increase by 3% even for a static profit and will help meeting the company 2% annual dividend increase (per share).

There is a good discussion on the LGEN board re buy backs.

Whatever the reason, whether justified or not, they should not be called cash returned to shareholders when plainly they are not.

wfcreserves - yes, the only justification for share buybacks is if the dividend yield is higher than the net cost of borrowing. Otherwise it is just an exercise to maximise bonuses as these usually have an EPS component.

Another company that calls buybacks cash returned to shareholders. They are not. Cash actually returned to shareholders could be used to reinvest wherever they want. The company is in effect enforcing "surplus" cash to be reinvested in the company to enhance it's EPS record.

The only cash return is to the shareholders who sell their shares back to the company.
