I see no reason not to buy now. However I am inclined to let the price settle before rushing in just in case something comes to light to justify the recent fall.I shall not be selling my existing holding.

Can only think must be a large seller in the background,as i can find no obvious reason for this fall on such tiny volume.

Unless the recent trading statement was nonsense this downward move seems ridiculous! The company highlighted the threats to its business but stated that it was on target to meet forcasts ,hence a P.E. OF ABOUT FIVE.Surely too cheap given the rising divedend too.

I am confused as well.
May top up at these levels.
MMs look like they don't want the stock and mark down sharply on small sells.
Funamentally the Company seems sound.
People will still buy books during a recession.

So why is it going down?

Has the world gone crazy or is it just us as the price went down today.

I expect an upbeat trading statement tomorrow.Noises from the recent book fair in Germany were very positive for the trade in general, also recent institutional interest bodes well.I think the poor share price at present merely reflects the overall weak market for smaller cos.Value will out in the end.Good luck all!

notforc I sold my last 3k @ 98.5p on Friday.

In this market, any bad news and the share price gets slaughtered
... on balance I decided to play it cautious and take a 35% profit
plus good divs, rather than risk all the gain evaporating on Tues.

Hard to say what the trading update will say. I note in the Interims
the chairman mentions Amazon.com... the point being if I interpret it
correctly, is that they are helping to force margins down but volumes
up. Amazon reported a 60% increase in UK sales last week.

Books are reportedly only slightly affeceted by recession, and Quarto
have the eventual benefit of the Marshalls acquisition.

Perhaps Tomrob who works in the industry can share his views if he is
reading this.

Good luck to all who decide to hold... I may well get back in at an
opportune time in the future.

Is there anybody out there? This stock declined by 2 points on a trade of 25000which looked more like a buy than a sell to me. The customary quarterly report is due out on the 29th. Could this be a buying opportunity?

Interesting to note Invesco English + International trust made three consecutive purchases back in JULY,to aquire a 5% stake, another vote of confidence.I for one will be amazed if this does not rise substatially from here.As it currently stands at a massive discount to the market on a P.E. BASIS AND HAS A WELL COVERED RISING DIVEDEND YIELD.Not worth waiting for the investment press to point this out!

quite a few traded today and mostly buys, I wonder why? I think last year they looked into a MBO (13/11/00 rns talked of enhancing shareholder value), but I suspect they were told to lower the net debt first, this they intend to do by improving margins to 10% and concentrating on core--hence ditching internet strategy--....lets hope they succeed...QRT still on p/e of 5 for last years earnings which seems, nay is very cheap

hilary,

Hope you have a good time.

QRT moving up today on small buying, and yes i do believe the MMs are short of stock. This stock could move north in a big way on smallish vol.

As for the footie, what can i say, only that it does'nt worry me a great deal. I was more concerned for poor Birmingham, fancy having a definate Pen turned down in extra time and then having to go through the Pens at the scoucers end, not to mention Roma's Pen debacle.
Just like old times for Liverpool.

Good evening H.

Nice weekend? Probably not! 6-1! WOW!

Any thoughts on those large trades around mid-price earlier on last week? MM's low on stock? I'll be away till Wednesday - catch you then. IBI might look interesting Monday - did you notice Friday's closing trades?
