It's funny because the business they have acquired in Germany is like-for-like......... Homeday haven't made a profit either lol. When are investors going to realise their money is going into a black hole, not one single dividend payment in the whole time this share has been trading & whenever there is a problem the focus seems to be diverted by more spending and costly expansion. The Bruces had better have some top-quality senior management to oversee the business in each country because from where i'm sat this mess is rapidly spiraling out of control. Mind you, the Bruces will have the last laugh as they have already made their fortunes from shares alone. It kind of reminds me of the banks back in '07..... lend lend lend, spend spend spend and hope that by ignoring the huge gaping hole on the balance sheet will make it go away. It won't.

They're taking over the world!

Or maybe not.

V. average mgmt which ideally should be running a 3 office agency somewhere, too many fronts open in too many countries, spread too thin, gonna end in tears.

When's the placing?

That verdict hits the nail on the head jonwig. They always have burnt though investor cash and will continue to do so until it's all gone. Heavy TV & radio advertising, rapid un-natural expansion, expensive UK LPE conferences etc all costs money..... a lot of money!!! Avoid

FT Opening Quote:

Purplebricks German joint venture

Purplebricks, the online estate agency backed by fund manager Neil Woodford, has long believed in “doubling down”. Or up. In the year to April, marketing costs more than doubled to £42m but revenues also doubled to £93.7m, thanks to an 81 per cent increase in the core UK division to £78m. Talk about taking a gamble on what it admits are “tough markets” for home sales.

And today, it is doubling down again: Purplebricks has announced a joint venture with publisher Axel Springer to enter the German market, through a joint stake in German online estate agent Homeday. At the same time, the UK group confirmed that it is trading in line with the Board's expectations for the current full year.

Key numbers:

Joint venture will have a 25.9 per cent stake in Homeday (including an existing 4 per cent stake brought in by Axel Springer)
Joint venture valuation €25.4m (£22.3m)
Investment of €12.7m (£11.1m) by Purplebricks, funded from existing cash resources

Bottom line: Purplebricks ends up with an effective 12.9 per cent shareholding in Homeday, and the joint venture has an option to acquire up to a further aggregate 28.5 per cent in Homeday in August 2019.

As the City expected? Not a big surprise. Purplebricks has been spending on expansion and growth, and expecting investors to wait for profit

What was said: Purplebricks chief executive Michael Bruce said: "Our investment in Homeday secures for us a strong foothold in Europe's second largest residential real estate market. This is a good opportunity for Purplebricks, allowing us to partner early with a dynamic and committed management team, while remaining focused on realising the opportunity in our existing markets.”

OQ verdict: How long will Mr Woodford and other shareholders wait? In the summer, house broker Peel Hunt said it now expected Purplebricks to become profitable in the 2021 financial year, having previously forecast 2019. More costly expansion will not speed that process.

Andy, I think he sees support at around 270p:

rogthepodge - 14 Aug 2018 - 14:31:25 - 5538 of 6290
these are a joy to trade from 270p, they keep bouncing from support beautifully

rogthepodge - 07 Sep 2018 - 16:46:04 - 5657 of 6290
week close holding 270p. Very positive.

only a muppet would open a short at 275p
