I'll look at profit taking at 78p thanks. But in coming weeks, I would expect to see a pound.

Equity markets could see profit taking today as we lead into the crucial Italian Referendum, which could send markets into a tail spin,if a No vote.

for what its worth the last time poo was at $55 a barrel PMO was around 1.40 (ish)....i have a sneaking feeling PMO will burst through the £1 barrier in a few weeks/month

Good technical close, held well above 62p area, which is the now the new support, 77p is the next resistance area.

Yep

I like to picture them having a whip round and emptying their pockets to see if they've got any more money they can throw at it.

Begorrah - would that be the King Canute shorting house?

I'd be inclined to think that it is one of the US shorting houses that has decided to double down hard on their short. Taken 4p off the share price since 2pm

It may be worth recalling history when it comes to OPEC cutting.

In late Dec 2008 they agreed to cut 2.2 mil bbls per day.
The price had been collapsing very precipitously to close to $45 pb. But by Jun 2009 (6 mts later) the price was $78 pb.

While it's a smaller cut this time the markets underestimated what even sentiment changing would do for the price.
IMO the shorting of oil stocks (especially highly geared ones) is much greater this time.
The outcome/reversal could be interesting to say the least!

Concerted effort to pull it back down. Maybe a breather before another push on?
