27/1/2006 13:50 | Is there anyone still watching this ? Tipped as a "High - Reward Play" in this weeks Shares Mag. and from the iii board :- Evolution Securities 100 Wood Street, London, EC2V 7AN 020 7071 4300 PHC issued a trading and product update today. It says sales were held back, we believe by $1m, because of temporary supply problems, but rising gross margins compensated. The net effect leaves EBIT in line with our earlier forecast at -$2.3m before -$0.4m of restructuring. Our forecast for 2006 contains nothing as yet for Myconate (see below). Pre-Tect, which can be used to stimulate new growth in crops just before they are harvested, has been specified by a leading UK supermarket. The treatment means crops stay fresher for longer in the ground, and the shelf-life is extended by 3-5 days. For farmers this means lower crop wastage. The advantages for retailer are obvious. We only assume sales of $0.5m in 2006 but expect rapid growth. The initial Myconate trials were reported last month. The most eye-catching performance came from maize trials in France, where there was an average yield increase of 16%, worth $94 per hectare, within a range of 12% to 24%. So it is not surprising that PHC has been approached by French companies to become distributors. For the moment it is refusing to commit itself. During 1Q it is due to receive data from trials conducted by major chemical companies. A global deal with one of them is likely to be a more attractive option. We see the commercial focus firmly on maize and soybean. We have excluded Myconate from our numbers because there is simply too much uncertainty. But in any case the major planting season is early in the year in the northern hemisphere, so any sales would be concentrated late this year as distributors stock up for 2007. The Company is considering a rapid expansion of its sales force to handle Myconate. As we have said before, a fundraising would be sensible, but this will depend on investors' appetite and on the route PHC follows. The Company have seen a draft of this note, and changes have been made Sales constrained, margins rising Long-dated lettuce Approaches from French distributors Sales force for Myconate? Salad days for PHC One of the UK's largest supermarkets is specifying salad growers to use Pre- Tect, the new treatment which extends shelf-life in salad and vegetable crops. As with Myconate, still very early days but another value driver. 30/8/2005 18:40 | Slapdash, I haven't read the statement yet, but will do. However, the end-of-day e-mail from UKAnalyst should explain things: There was good news and bad news from Plant Health, but the bad news was more immediate and shares wilted 6p to 48.5p. The company issued a full-year warning, saying that it now saw losses for the year ending December 31st would be significantly greater than current market expectations. It said this was down to a need to invest in infrastructure and financial systems to deal with new contracts and the fact that the cost base of the group has increased. The company also announced a new contract win. Following the successful completion of a pilot test programme, it has now entered into a 10-year contract with John Deere Landscapes. Under the terms of the contract, to maintain their exclusivity, JDL was required to purchase a minimum of approximately 40 million dollars of the company's products over the next 10 years. What kind of effect this will have going forward, I couldn't say. But over-expansion by companies is a known problem. | jonwig
30/8/2005 16:43 | I've given up trying to figure this company out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Any thoughts on today's news????? Slap | slapdash
26/8/2005 11:01 | The forward-looking PE would look bearable if they had enough patent protection: I just don't know if they have. Interesting ride if you're already aboard. | jonwig
26/8/2005 10:48 | read it... but still on massive p/e ratio a few years out... so really have to have faith that it will all come together for them.... Slap | slapdash

09/8/2005 20:02 | Hi Slap, Their website will tell you more than you ever wanted to know! There are plenty of 'natural' fertilisers around (seaweed extract, etc.) but PHC's direction is encouragement of beneficial bacteria and fungi in the soil -as you point out yourself in your header. Anyway, lucky you, as I see they are up again today. I ought to join you in these, but I like to catch early trends, and don't like chasing things. Best of luck, John. | jonwig
09/8/2005 00:17 | jonwig - Know much about their product??? Slap | slapdash

04/4/2005 13:27 | Well I've failed to generate any interest in this which is probably just as well given the direction of the share price!!!! Results out soon which will probably be poor... But great thing about this company is that you can test its product on your plants!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Slap | slapdash
07/3/2005 22:37 | This is a stock that appears to have disappointed in terms of sales since floatation. However, it does have a lot of potential which is likely to see revenues increase over the long-term with profits following them. Interestingly you can buy its products in the UK under a different brand. What it sells: a type of fungi which enables plants to reach for more nutrients beyone their roots. This makes the survive and prosper much more than they would do otherwise. This fungi is naturally occuring and is essentially the while stips you see if you look into a potted plant's pot. PHC have an excellent website with video cams etc... | slapdash |
