I suppose, given the problems that keep appearing with other stocks yielding 5% and the lack of stable retailers to invest in, PETS might end up just being a beneficiary of a load of money looking for a stable place to earn a good yield.

CVS is another vets company. The shares have took a bigger nosedive than PETS. Still, the shorters are not into it, looks like they have managed to do the damage themselves without shorters.

Just as I get my nose in front, and then CVS drags us down. I was hoping that PETS would reach CVS valuation multiples, rather than the other way round.
CVS bad news is not necessarily bad news for PETS. It's a different business model, and surely CVS bad trading update, should makes PETS recent good trading update look even better?

This is clearly a successful business though, and euroclear shows 60 million shares out on short, which is huge. this will rerate purely on that basis alone, its not doing badly and the shorts have got it wrong.

Buy.

Given that it's basically a dividend stock, as it's not growing profits, there's no reason for it to fly up near 200 unless just driven by stock shortage. A p/e between 10-15 might be justified if it comes to be regarded as a defensive stock, which is quite possible, as the pet market is resilient and it looks like pets is as well. As perhaps one of the few retailers with shops that survive well it could be the beneficiary of significant fund investment. P/e of 12 might be fair at some point fairly soon. I imagine this mornings dip is just traders out - not the old shorting conspiracy

Walking it down on 100k of volume. Shorters gaming this as hard as they can.

Based on shorts and growth projections 200 plus seems more reasonable. 180 could be first stop? Expecting another big moved past 150 today now this has broken outbid it's trading range. I have gone back and looked at when the short positions were increased and what the respective share prices were, if it hits 180 almost none will be in profit, they will be scrambling for the exit, some will already be heavily underwater.
