Yes the drop of guidance from 195koz to 181k for FY17 together with the lower rand gold price has superseded those Edison figures.

Even if they can hold production costs/oz steady on the lower production then H2 EPS is going to come in around 0.4p vs 0.91p for H1 (assuming gold prices for H2 average around the current 509kZar/kg.)

This means full year eps will be between 1.3 & 1.4p. Edison is wrong about paying out 40% of free cash flow it is actually 40% of operating cash flow which will be higher. Operating cash flow is typically 10-30% higher than eps so the range of the dividend will probably be between:

1.3 x 110% x 40% = 0.57p - 3.5% yield.
1.4 x 130% x 40% = 0.73p = 4.4% yield.

this isn't a bad yield but unless they change their 40% of OCF guidance or the rand gold price soars then the dividend will be lower than the 0.88p paid out in 2016.

With EPS also likely to come in lower in 2017 than 2016 they have kind of shot themselves in the foot with heir production issues.

srp.The share price has held up well, with those disclosures, much better than HGM,which is down around 15% from recent high,s.It is the price of Gold which has dropped from 1260 to atm 1209,which has caused the problem.Do not put down PAF,because you sold out.If you were still a holder. You would not be posting that would you.Hope you still do not own ALY ?

I have been in this for a few years. I don't like the developments here at the moment and don't like the talk of a funfraising especially in the light of the projected drop in production as a result of the scheduled work.

Le Mass....are you really as dim as you appear to be? This is a share that depends on the price of gold......not so long ago, gold was 1350 plus....this company is a producer so the share price moves with the price of gold.....get with the plot here..... 😎

Oh dear. It's hardly matched the rise in gold and other goldies over the last 3 months has it. And now we discover there's trouble up mill, adding to the ongoing workers issue. Not great is it. Head and shoulders forming on the chart too.

PAF will respond very favourable if there is an M&A rumour.

Great info from the times although I haven't seen the article myself to comment further.

Thanks dangersimpson - i misunderstood your post. I guesss I was hoping you would suggest a more liquid but similar company to PAF but with better prospects. Like you, I recognise that I have no idea where ZAR or gold is going so will be avoiding those trades

frazboy,

These are instruments you can trade directly. Forex and PM trading are some of the most liquid and widely traded markets in the world. Any spreadbet provider will let you trade these.

Not that I'd recommend it though. They fail my investment criteria since I always ask myself 'what do I know about these instruments that thousands of traders with economic models on supercomputers don't know?' Not a lot is the answer.

Small caps are much more lucrative since a lot of investors don't even model the basic aspects of corporate profitability and rely on slowly updated brokers' notes for their info. There's always something you don't know or an assumption that is wrong but at least you can understand the drivers and react appropriately to news.
