The view southwards down Whitehall towards The Elizabeth Tower (aka the Clock Tower formerly known as Big Ben).





The view down the stair to Chatsworth House in Derbyshire, a palatial mansion with the most sumptuously decorated interiors imaginable. I’d say autumn is obviously the perfect time for a decamp to Derbyshire, judging from the vista above.





This is the Lorde Leycester Hospital in Warwick, Warwickshire; which is not a medical establishment but a retirement home for ex-servicemen and their wives. The word hospital is used in its ancient sense, meaning ‘a charitable institution for the housing and maintenance of the needy, infirm, or aged’

The Hospital is a group of historical timber-framed buildings, constructed in the late 14th centuryand clustered tidily round a Norman gateway. The 12th century Chantry Chapel is above it; and hidden behind these venerable edifices is the tiny, delightful Master’s Garden. The Hospital is open to the public and welcomes visitors throughout the year; with rooms available for civil ceremonies and weddings and private functions and such.





The Wallis Annenberg Wildlife Crossing will be the world’s largest wildlife overpass when it’s completed around 2025. Constructed across the Ventura Freeway near Los Angeles, California, the 200-foot-long (61-meter), 165-foot-wide (50-meter) corridor will provide safe crossing for mountain lions and other animals, using vegetation and walls to block light and noise from vehicles. Construction broke ground on Earth Day of this year and this rendering uses satellite imagery to show the planned, finished look of the corridor.

Windsor Great Park (locally the Great Park) is a 5,000 acre(20 km2) deer park on the border of counties Berkshire and Surrey in England. For centuries this park was the private hunting ground of Windsor Castle; and dates from the 1200’s





The County-Formerly-known-as-Perthshire, Scotland, was called “the big county” due to its wide variety of landscapes. The county was abolished in 1975 and split into Central and Tayside Regions; both in the Highlands.





The Color of Autumn. Morden Hall Park in London, England.
Morden Hall Park lies within the London Borough of Morden, “an area of green space within an otherwise dense cluster of 1930s housing.” Within the park is a large circular spooky mysterious mound which may be a burial ground from the Iron Age.





The Wallace Monument stands outside the city of Stirling, Scotland, an ancient city clustered around a large fortress and medieval old town. The monument honours Sir William Wallace, was a Scottish knight, landowner, and leader during the Wars of Scottish Independence. Wallace defeated the English at the Battle of Stirling Bridge in 1297, but was captured by King Edward I of England in 1305, who assured him all was forgiven and he was all about the love had him hanged, drawn, and quartered.





Edinburgh Castle at night. Edinburgh Castle dominates the skyline of the city for which it is named, and is Scotland’s most-visited paid tourist attraction. It lies atop an extinct volcanic plug, Castle Rock; and has been in existence since at least the twelfth century.

Palma is a resort city and capital of the Spanish island of Mallorca, in the western Mediterranean. Tourism has caused Palma to grow significantly since the mid-1900s and is consequently its main economic sector. In fact, more than half of the island’s 410,000 residents work in tourism.





The Nile River is commonly regarded as the longest river in the world, flowing for 4,258 miles (6,853 km) over 11 countries in northeastern Africa. In this Overview, it is shown flowing north through Egypt, forming a large delta before emptying into the Mediterranean Sea. Civilizations since ancient times have depended on the waters of the Nile to flood and fertilize the surrounding desert lands.

Volcanic craters cover the landscape in Harrat Khaybar, a lava field in Saudi Arabia. Formed by a series of eruptions over 5 million years, the Harrat covers an area of more than 4,600 square miles (12,000 square km). In the bottom right of this Overview is White Mountain, a geological rarity which gets its pale color from a huge volcanic explosion that emitted gases and white ash containing silicon.





Fingal’s Cave is a sea cave on the uninhabited island of Staff, one of the Inner Hebrides islands which skirt the western coast of Scotland. The immense arch-roofed cave creates a melodic, haunting echo of waves within its cathedral-like atmosphere; something so impressive Romantic Poets John Keats, William Wordsworth, and Alfred, Lord Tennyson all made journeys here; as well as Her Majestic Queen Victoria. The cave’s Gaelic name is Uamh-Binn, meaning “cave of melody.”

Brixham is a small fishing town in the county of Devon, England. Sir Francis Drake’s ship, The Golden Hind, an incredibly beautiful English galleon upon which he sailed ‘round the world between 1577 and 1580, is permanently moored there.





Crummock Water is one of the multitude of serenely lovely lakes found in England’s famous Lake District. It is situated between Buttermere to the south, and Loweswater to the north; in the ceremonial county of Cumbria, which borders Scotland.





EEEEEEEE look at this magical fairytale glen!!! This is in Betws-y-Coed (“Prayer house in the wood”), Welsh pronunciation: [ˈbɛtʊ;s ə ˈkɔɨd]) a little village in the Conwy valley of Conwy Borough, Wales. The town was founded around a monastery in the late sixth century.

Stourhead is a 2,650 acre (11 km²) National Trust estate near Mere in Wiltshire county, England. The estate includes a Palladian mansion, the village of Stourton, gardens, farmland, woodland, and this cottage.

Piccadilly Circus, (circus from the Latin circle in this context) is a round and open space at a street junction. Piccadilly Circus was built in 1819 to connect Regent Street with the major shopping street of Piccadilly. The Circus is well known for its video display, neon signs, Shaftesbury memorial fountain, and the Eros statue of an archer.





Wordsworth Street, Penrich, is a market town in the county of Cumbria, England. William Wordsworth (1770-1850) was a major English Romantic poet who, along with Coleridge, helped launch the Romantic Age in English literature with their 1798 joint publication Lyrical Ballads. Wordsworth was Britain’s Poet Laureate from 1843-1850. He attended primary school here in Penrich with Mary Hutchinson, who later became his wife.

This Overview of Mars, captured by NASA’s Ingenuity helicopter, shows the wreckage of a “backshellR21; — a component that detached from the Perseverance rover when it landed on Mars in February 2021. We can also see the backshell’s 70-foot-wide (21-meter) parachute in frame.

The Ingenuity is a robotic helicopter that follows the Perseverance rover around Mars, taking photos as it hovers above the red planet’s surface. This photo was taken, along with 9 others, during its 26th flight last week, which lasted 159 seconds and spanned 1,181 feet (360 meters).

This bewitching little cottage looks as if it belongs in The Shire, but it’s actually from The Chelsea Flower Garden Show (formally known as “The Great Spring Show”) a fantastical floral feast held for five days each May in Chelsea, London. 157,000 plus visitors attend this show, which boasts a plethora of award-winning garden, floral, tree, vegetable, herbal, educational, and scientific exhibits.

Mount Vesuvius is a somma-stratovolcano located in Campania, Italy, about 5.6 miles (9 km) east of Naples. It is best known for its eruption in AD 79, which killed thousands and destroyed the Roman cities of Pompeii, Herculaneum, Oplontis and Stabiae. With an eruption as recent as 1944 and at least 3 million living nearby, Vesuvius is regarded as one of the most dangerous volcanoes in the world.





Plaza Mayor is a public square in the heart of Madrid, Spain. Dating back to the 15th century, it once served as the central marketplace of Old Madrid. Wallis, also known as Uvéa, is a Polynesian atoll in the Pacific Ocean belonging to the French overseas collectivity of Wallis and Futuna. Surrounded by a lagoon, barrier reef and some 15 smaller islands, it spans 39 square miles (100 square km) and has 8,333 residents. Wallis is of volcanic origin, with fertile soil and plentiful rainfall to support subsistence farming.
