LONDON--Boeing Co. (BA) on Friday said it has acquired imagery software company 2d3 Sensing from U.K.-based OMG PLC (OMG.LN) in an effort to strengthen its airborne intelligence collection capabilities.
The deal is valued at $25 million, Oxford, England-based OMG said in a regulatory statement. OMG said it would generate $16.4 million in pretax profit from the deal and pay its shareholders a special dividend of 5.1 million pounds ($7.5 million).
Boeing said it would fold 2d3 Sensing, which has operations in California and the U.K., into its Insitu subsidiary, which makes drones for the military.
"The services they provide highlight ways in which computer vision and image processing technologies can be used to enhance and analyze full motion video data captured and recorded during live missions," Ryan Hartman, president and chief executive of Boeing's Insitu unit, said in a statement.
