25/2/2020 18:22 | There is no best case scenario, looking at percentages alone and bearing in mind China has been hiding the true figures mortality is around 3%. In Iran 10%, Taking the average of these two say 6%, What is 6% of British population? Proper and accurate tests are needed without having retests. The flip side is we need the WHO coordinating vaccine development and test - this is where they need to prove their worth! | hsdeo

25/2/2020 17:59 | Senior Japanese Government Adviser Says Coronavirus Can't Be StoppedPosted on February 25, 2020Japan is shifting strategies in its battle against the Covid-19 coronavirus and admitting it cannot stop the spread of the virus. The virus is proving difficult to contain completely so they are focusing more on caring for those hit hardest by the virus - the most serious cases - and slowing down the virus's spread.A story in The Washington Post quotes Shigeru Omi, a senior Japanese government adviser, as saying, "We shouldn't have illusions. We can't stop this, but we can try to reduce the speed of expansion and reduce mortality."The virus spreads so quickly - and sickens a large enough percentage - that there are not enough hospital beds to take care of the sickest people. Hospitals and staff quickly become overwhelmed. The seriously sick people are also staying on ventilators for extremely long periods. A Bloomberg story says, "Critical care resources in central China are being strained by coronavirus patients needing a month or more on mechanical ventilators." Tens of thousands of people requiring mechanical ventilators will overwhelm hospitals even in countries with modern healthcare systems. | jasonblue66

25/2/2020 17:38 | Let's say the boat docked on jan-1st, all tested all clear. Then on the 12th, 1 tested positive. On the same day(12th) that positive person then contaminated a few others unknowingly. The others might. It show symptoms or test positive until the 24? So it looks like a 2 week incubation period might be wrong in the first place. I could be completely wrong but I think this scenario is plausible. We need tests that work,.quickly | mms98
25/2/2020 17:28 | They weren't properly quarantined on the ship. So 14 day quarantine not applicable for them. | martin3042
25/2/2020 17:24 | If the incubation period is proven to be 2 weeks and that a person tested negative after 2 weeks shows symptoms of the virus, it means the test kit used is not accurate enough and thus not reliable. This is a disaster because it will direct scientists to a new wrong incubation period of more than 2 weeks - if they assume the test kit is accurate and not faulty. Better the Chinese admit (again) their equipment is rubbish. How do they verify if the kit is calibrated if results are wrong ? | fuji99
