19/2/2009 09:48 | LOL!! - well perhaps not - dump them all - but a word of caution or a word off opportunity after all if it keeps flipping from 6p - 90p then its an investment opportunity - if you get my drift | topdoggyuk

17/2/2009 17:23 | grbaker - we do not have an unelected person ruining the country. (oops-typo!) We do not elect a PM. We elect members of Parliament. Her Majesty invites whoever is most likely to be able to gain the support of MPs to form a government. ie the leader of the largest party. I see nothing wrongf with this. What i do see as wrong is that MPs for Scottish seats are allowed in the English parliament. And that mess is certainly down to Labour; though I do not see the Tories promising to abolish the Scottish Parliament and the Welsh gabfest. | scribbler101
17/2/2009 16:39 | Onsider: Well, that's one of looking at it: I tend to take the view that it doensn't matter who wins as you get scr*wed either way by whoever get's elected. Also, it is worth remembering that Civil Servants actually run the country and that they may remain in their jobs regardless of who's 'in power'. You should also note that the number of people voting has been in decline in recent elections and that politicians are very worried about it... Not voting does in fact get their attention. If you feel that you must vote then it is your choice to do so, just as it is still a freedom not to do so. There is also an argument that labour inherited a country in a state of decline, after many years of conservative rule and the associated lack of investment (public transport, railways, schools [and I still remember how one M Thatcher stopped free milk for School children... now that was just plain nasty...], hospitals, many industries sold off to the private sector, only to be run down by their buyers etc. etc.) ... but that's another story and argument altogether. It's just my opinion you understand: if you like what goes on... if you're happy to see government after government 'listenning to the people', saying they will do x, y, and z and then going on to do the exact opposite... then go ahead and vote! Also, do you realy honestly feel that your vote had any tangible influnece over the way things are run... when you look at how the writing and enactment of legislation transcends individual parties and their fleeting terms in office? Personally, until I see a government actually make good on an election promise... I can't see the point of voting as I will have been voting for lies. All IMHO, of course, which is just as valid as anybody elses no matter if it is different! By the way: please do go ahead and complain about 'Labour'... they seem no better than or even different to the last lot we had in before them. And by the way, as somebody who obviously pays a great deal more attention to politics than me, please can you explain how and why we have an unelected person 'running' the county now anyway??? So I suppose that you are in fact correct: my statement does kind of assume that everybody votes for the eventual winner, as the winners are indistinguishable from each other in their actions! Meanwhile... what about this sorry state of affairs with our cash going up in smoke to said Labour? If the conservatives promissed to value NRK properly without deception, then that is something that might just induce me to vote... but could you actually trust them to keep their word I wonder? | grbaker
17/2/2009 14:34 | grbaker, what utter bullsh!t!!!!! If you fail to vote then you simply lose the right to complain completey. Your staement seems to assume that everyone votes for the eventual winner. I have been a conservative voter all my life and fail to see why I, in your eyes, should not complain about the shambles that is the Labour party... about | onsider
17/2/2009 09:41 | kpwuk lol!!! And may I add... anybody p*ssed off with Brown etc. should simplynot bother to vote: every time you vote (and are not happy with what the elected ... or even unelected in the case of Brown... get up to) you are giving them a stamp of approval. Therefore, if you don't like it don't vote: it's the only thing they pay attention to. IMHO. | grbaker

15/2/2009 21:26 | Loverat. You have missed the point of the analogy. It should not be a matter of whether you deserve to be to be repaid for the shares in the same way as for a long term or windfall holder, it is purely a matter of right and wrong re the governments actions. A lottery winner is just a successful chancer but non the less deserving of his good fortune. | kpwuk
15/2/2009 16:14 | Loverat - it is not SYMPATHY they need, it is fair treatment. All that is being asked is that the "Independent" expert is allowed to set a FAIR price for the appropriation of private property. What the government has legislated is for him to assume a different set of facts from those that actually apply. | scribbler101
15/2/2009 15:05 | Using the logic of Vince Cable, if I knock a lottery winner on the head and steal his wallet, that is OK because he did not deserve to have the money in the first place!! | kpwuk |
