12/2/2009 18:59 | Brown and HBOS Brown was in the hot seat again today with Crosby resignation. He let slip that the reason that the FSA probed HBOS back in 2001/2 was because of HBOS mortgage growth. He then said that this was not the source of HBOS present difficulties. The big problem for HBOS was LIQUIDITY. In other words the same problem as Northern Rock. This begs two obvious questions 1. Why did they confiscate the assets of Northern Rock and not HBOS. 2. What is the role of the BoE when there is a complete withdrawal of liquidy. | bryan2
12/2/2009 17:57 | grbaker I am sure it will end up in the European Court! This is just a Charade to drag it out! GL | magician2001
12/2/2009 15:27 | Even if the UK descision is "no compensation due", SRM Global will probably take it to the European Court (and this is a very likely outcome IMO): they have already mentioned that might be their next step. [Although the term "compensation" is questionable: personally (I hold - or held - a few of these) I don't want compensation. I would like fair value for the assets and intangibles of NRK (an ongoing business) and or an appropriate stake in shares, when the government re-issues down the line.] | grbaker

12/2/2009 12:40 | Onsider There is no need for that. I do not visit this board very often, and have asked a simple inocent question of anyone who wanted to give me their honest opinion. I did know a decision hadn't been made I do not take kindly to being branded a moron. I am however prepared to accept your apoplogy. Don't think I will be posting again | russy1
12/2/2009 09:42 | Russy1 - 11 Feb'09 - 12:21 - 1339 of 1346 Will we get any Compensation YES or NO anybody ??? What a moronic question! Do you not think that this would not be all over the news if the decision had been made. Headlines either bemoaning the poor shareholders for their losses, or headlines cursing the greedy shareholders if we get something, no matter haw small. But, if you want an answer, then it will be NO, guarenteed. We will not get a penny in my opinion. | onsider

11/2/2009 11:44 | Mervyn King on TV today said he only realised the depth of the credit crisis in Sept 2008 after the collapse of the Lehman Bank. Northern Rock approached the BoE in Aug 2007 and told the BoE that the wholesale credit market had frozen. When will the Parliamentary Treasury Committee demand an apology from Mervyn for being so slow to react to an obvious Major crisis? | bryan2 |
