15/2/2009 07:12 | This response from the Treasury/Lib Dems..... Does anyone think the Hedge Funds taking this to court damaged the case of the small shareholders? A Treasury spokesman welcomed the judgement. But the Liberal Democrat economics spokesman Vince Cable was scathing about the motives of some of the shareholders. "The two hedge funds who brought this case to the High Court deserve to lose their shirts," he said. "They bought Northern Rock shares on the cheap soon after the run on the bank in the hope of making a quick buck. "We should not reward such cynical and reckless speculation." | loverat
15/2/2009 02:05 | adyfc - how far back did you look for me? Less than 5 posts apparently. I am in Lloyds now - only because I had retained a small holding in HBOS because they are my own bankers. But it just might be a good time to go long if you feel brave. | scribbler101
15/2/2009 01:37 | Nope. It was nationalised all right. And HMG agrees that it must pay compensation. It is just trying to cheat over the amount. | scribbler101
13/2/2009 18:44 | Not sure if Edwin Coe were the right choice to be honest. Lost the Railtrack case, lost the Nigel Smith defamation cases and now this. The judge was not too impressed with them in this case....... | loverat
13/2/2009 16:51 | ajmace, I'll be expecting your apology then? Next time, don't go to a Search engine for your news, go to a news channel. Was announced on BBC at 9:50 (ish), was also on Capital Radio and LBC in the 10am newscasts. | onsider
13/2/2009 16:48 | I believe it has to be, at the very least it has to go to the former shareholders. | onsider
13/2/2009 15:31 | In Prime Ministers Questions the PM on Wednesday said that NRK was nationalised. I thought they specifically said that NRK was not nationalised as this would require compensating the share holders under nationalisation legislation? | ekuuleus
13/2/2009 14:07 | Will the full judgment be made public? | knowsleyman
13/2/2009 13:00 | Scribbler101 Yes it may end up in Europe before we can get a final decision on this that is fair. However we have the court of appeal to go to first then up to the lords. Maybe a bung in the right hands can sort it there? Whats the going rate now? Or we could just buy a few peerages? How did Mr Peston senior get his? | diydan
13/2/2009 12:55 | It is not that big a surprise that shareholders did not win this time though I am disappointed by the result. I have said all along I have a lot of faith in the UK legal system and I am pleased the judges gave leave to appeal this decision to the court of appeal. Then after that up to the Lords maybe? However the only way to get a fair court dicision will be when it gets to europe. | diydan
13/2/2009 11:53 | I would not rule out the European Court. HMG has no control over who judges it there! Perhaps I am cynical to think that here it was probably not assigned to the judges thought most likely to annoy Gordy? | scribbler101
