31/10/2020 18:33 | As you get older , your body starts to fight back. I got to the stage where I couldn't increase my bench press. In fact the reps I could do actually started to go down. I started to do 3 weeks of lower weight high reps , followed by 3 weeks of maximum weight low reps , more sets. I'm now miles ahead of where I'd plateaued. On the light weeks , make sure that you have good form. On the heavy weeks , you can cheat , just get the weight up as high as possible and have longer recovery periods. In the same way , if you want to compete at 100m , you can't just run 100m over and over again. You will run 200m sometimes and at other times drag a tyre behind you. | bionicdog
31/10/2020 17:52 | I'm surprised curry is stuck at 10 minute miles. I can't believe it's a strength problem, it can only be lungs. There are 2 aspects to running, strength/stamina and breathing. Well unless there's some underlying health issue. I went through cycles when I was improving. When I pushed it the muscles would lose power, as I worked on those it would be the lungs that couldn't supply the oxygen, I'd be gasping for air. Increase intensity and the lungs would expand and then the muscles would suffer. It's the way of things. Easy to check. go out and really push hard. What gives out first. Improve legs by running distance, Improve lungs by increasing intensity with hill work and intervals | sg31
31/10/2020 16:21 | Curry Try alternating between neural (strength) and metabolic (hypertrophy) if you have plateaued. In terms of running it would been 3 weeks of endurance followed by 3 weeks of high intensity over short distances. Rest , recover , repeat. Slot news. World's going mad again , bog roll running out etc etc. | bionicdog
29/10/2020 09:22 | Everything in moderation I suppose. Personally I'd go for strength training ever time , provided you can do it at home. I like to break it up into three sessions a day and I wouldn't be able to do that if I had to elsewhere to do it. | bionicdog
29/10/2020 08:18 | well, that's what I thought till 2 years ago, hence never bothered till then. However some new research shows that impact and stress actually strengthen joints.. Benefits a bit like weights, maintaining muscle mass, increasing bone density, and promoting cartridge growth.. | currypasty |
